History: Jack FKA Joe was recently returned to rescue due to no fault of his own. He has been settling into rescue and doing really well! He would love to find his home soon!
A Note from the Foster: Meet Jack, the 6-year-old cutie pie who is about to steal your heart! Jack is a Shiba Inu, and he lives up to the breed’s typical characteristics as an alert, independent, and affectionate guy!
Alert 👀
Jack takes his neighborhood watch shifts very seriously! His favorite place in his foster home is on the couch, perched and ready to watch every incoming squirrel, bird, rabbit, blowing leaf - anything - that passes by! He’s alert and attentive to his foster family’s movements, following us around in the home and observing the resident dogs. Sometimes, his alertness can lead to a bit of anxiety, but with calm reassurance and a safe space within his crate, he is quickly soothed! He’s such a smart dog that he’ll often take himself right to his crate when he needs some time to relax.
Anxiety for Jack can be curbed by finding an outlet for his alertness & energy through walks, play sessions, and little adventures. This guy would be a great hiking buddy -- just know that he miiiiggghttt get a little distracted by a squirrel! He may be wary of new people who enter your home at first, but once he knows that his people think these newbies are cool, he’ll be all in! He’s just a protective and loyal guy - what can he say!
Independent 🐕
Shibas are strong-willed and independent dogs, and Jack is no different! He loves his quality time curled up in a comfy bed or his crate, just gnawing away at a Benebone. He’s happy to play by himself, but that doesn’t mean he won’t tell you all about it! Find him tussling around with a toy and letting out some famous Shiba “awoooos” to let you know how happy and excited he is to be playing! Shiba Inus are so independent; they’re also known to be sneaky little escape artists. Jack would do best with a family who will partake in outdoor play time with him, whether it’s in a fenced yard or always attached to a leash, so he doesn’t get distracted and sneak off to hunt a squirrel all alone!
Jack is a smarty pants, like most Shibas are, and though he benefits from his “me time,” he also loves to train and show off his tricks! A family who is willing to help him continue to learn and grow, or who will find him toys, puzzles, and fun things to do to challenge his smarty pants brain, will surely gain some kisses of appreciation from this handsome guy!
Affectionate ❤️
Don’t worry, just because this guy is a doggy introvert, it doesn’t mean he isn’t a loving boy! Jack loves to show love by giving his people (and his favorite dog friends) little gentle kisses to show you he cares. Once he gets comfortable with you, he might even spend his alone time near you! He makes a great parallel play buddy -- need someone to keep you company while you watch TV? Jack’s your guy; he’ll curl up peacefully in his bed nearby. Crocheting or playing video games? Jack will play with his toys right beside you! Shibas are loyal dogs who truly love and crave time with their people; they just do so on their own terms. Jack’s value of personal space, a clean kennel, and sweet kisses given to his favorite friends will make him a great companion for those who appreciate a subtle kind of affection.
An energetic, loving, and patient boy, Jack is ready to find his chance at forever. Could that be you!?
Adoption Fee: $510 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
