Lloyd

Adoption Status: Pending

Gender: Male
Breed: Mastiff
Age: Est DOB: 02/2023
Weight: TBA
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Lloyd was recently welcomed to rescue when went unclaimed at a local impound. They now have a home here at CHDR until they find a family of their very own soon!

A Note from the Foster: Oh my stars! Just look at this face! This gentle giant is quickly learning how to be the star of his own show! This is why Lloyd has tried on a few stars’ names while staying with us including: Scooby Doo, Scoobs, Marmaduke, and Biggie (Smalls). We have quickly realized, it doesn’t matter what we call this sweet boy, if there is any chance of a snack he is there! He is a huge fan of treats… ok, all food. Although food motivated, he has not shown any guarding behaviors and is doing a great job learning manners. He was pretty thin when he came to rescue and has been steadily gaining weight. His forever family needs to be ok with sloppy kisses and shakes and keep a jowl towel ready! Keeping Lloyd downstairs while the humans cook and eat upstairs has been helpful at keeping the drool at bay. He did not understand any commands when he first came to our family, but he has already learned sit, gentle, and out. We can tell Lloyd is a smart fella and with patience and practice from his forever family, he is going to shine. Speaking of shine- do you see the shine in those eyes? He has the most beautiful golden honey eyes. He came to us with cherry eye in that left eye and had surgery to remove it when he was fixed. He is currently completing heartworm treatment (last treatment 5/13). He is such a snuggly boy! He has quickly learned about all the softest spots at his foster home and can regularly be found sitting awkwardly on the couch. Lloyd already seems fiercely loyal, especially to his foster mama. He does great with kids and with our resident dog, a male mastiff/boxer. However, Lloyd is big, goofy, and pretty clumsy… I would be concerned about him accidentally knocking over someone unsteady on their feet or toddlers and small children. He is a scaredy cat- balloons, fresh cut flowers, orchids, and curtains that blow in the wind are all scary … “0/10…not a fan... balloons are totally unpredictable,” says Lloyd. Although Lloyd does well in a car, getting him in a car can be a challenge. With some practice and patience, we believe he could be a great travel companion. He seems all mastiff in both his handsome looks and charm, although we don’t know anything about his history. He is a fantastic work from home companion and spends most of the day lounging at his humans’ feet. He has a bit of separation anxiety, so a human who works from home would be ideal! He also would love a fur sibling or two, someone who can help him as he continues to learn how to ‘dog.’ Although he doesn’t do well in a crate, he does well on a leash and is completely potty trained. He has slowly but surely started playing with balls and toys. It has been an absolute joy to watch him come out of his shell and start to have fun with his foster brother! He is the goodest boy, a true gentle giant, and he is so excited to meet his forever family! He hopes his human or family will love long naps and snuggles and that he can continue to be the star of the show… oh, and no balloons!

Adoption Fee: $560 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
