History: Shiro is a super sweet boy who arrived to rescue in desperate need of a second chance. He is such a handsome who is working on his trust and confidence and hopes to find his forever home soon!
A Note from the Foster: Meet Shiro — pronounced “Shee-roh,” which means “white” in Japanese — a beautiful 2-year-old male Bichon Frisé with soft white curls and an even softer heart. At just 13 pounds, Shiro is a gentle little soul looking for a patient and loving home where he can continue learning that the world is a safe place.
Shiro was rescued from the commercial breeding industry and is experiencing many everyday things for the very first time. While he is naturally shy and timid, he is also incredibly sweet and trying very hard to be brave. In just a few short weeks in foster care, he has already made amazing progress and continues to gain confidence every day.
One of his favorite things to do is take walks where he can see and smell the world. He would love a family that would take even longer walks than his foster mom can. He does well with potty training on a schedule and is quiet in his crate at night. When foster mom is gone he shares a pen with his foster brother. Shiro is a quick learner, especially when treats are involved — chicken is his favorite! He also takes a daily anxiety medication like a champ every 8 hours with a little canned food, peanut butter, or cheese.
Because so much is still new to him, Shiro can be startled by loud noises, sudden movements, busy environments, and unfamiliar people. He’s curious, though, and learning that everyday household things aren’t scary after all. He does great with stairs, decided that dog beds are wonderful, likes to cuddle on the couch, and is starting to play with toys. With time and patience, his confidence will continue to grow.
Shiro truly enjoys the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with another calm yet playful and confident dog who can help show him the ropes. He is living with two cats, and has not spent much time around young children. Due to his sensitive nature, he would thrive in a calm home without small children, or with older, respectful kids who understand how to give him space.
His ideal family will be patient, gentle, and committed to helping him continue building trust and learning basic life skills at his own pace. A family who is home much of the time would be a bonus. In return, Shiro will reward them with quiet companionship, sweet affection, and the joy of watching him blossom into the happy dog he was always meant to be.
Shiro will require daily brushing to maintain his beautiful curly coat and professional grooming every 4–6 weeks. Most importantly, he needs a calm environment, daily exercise, a steady routine, and kindhearted people willing to go slow and let him shine.
Adoption Fee: $560 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
