What is it?
The Senior Buddies Outreach Program is a program that started in January 2013. Senior Buddies is our program where volunteers go with one of our gentle foster dogs or Coco's Heart Alumni dogs. The goal is to spend time with the residents, many times in the memory care center, to provide love and comfort to the treasured seniors.
It has been shown that dogs can have a positive impact on residents in senior living centers. They provide companionship, help to reduce feelings of loneliness, and promoting social interactions. It has also been shown to improve mental and physical health and help to reduce stress and anxiety levels.
What does it look like to volunteer for Senior Buddies? Bringing one of our calm, gentle and dog friendly foster dogs in rescue OR one of our Alumni dogs. Interested in volunteering? Fill out our volunteer form. We would love to have you join this very important cause.
Who benefits?
The residents really enjoy our visits and love seeing and petting the dogs. It is also beneficial to our dogs because they get additional love and socialization.
Can I help?
Yes! Volunteers are always needed. You can bring your own dog if he or she would be gentle and calm with the elderly residents, or borrow a Coco’s Heart dog!
