Artie

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Bichon Frise
Age: DOB: 04/2022
Weight: 11 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: In Progress

History: Artie is a super sweet boy who arrived to rescue in desperate need of a second chance. He is such a handsome and striking boy who is ready to meet his forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster: Artie is a shy little guy who’s still figuring out the world at his own pace. He’s not yet comfortable being petted and doesn’t actively seek out attention, but he does enjoy being near his people and hanging out quietly in the same space. He’s more of a “presence” dog than a cuddle bug—for now—and that’s okay.

From a medical standpoint, Artie has had a bit of a rough start. After arriving in rescue, we noticed he didn’t respond to sound and would sleep through even loud noises. A vet visit revealed severe ear infections, with his ears full of debris. His ears have now been treated twice, and while he does seem to have gained some hearing back, he still appears to be hearing impaired.

The vet also found severe dental disease, and Artie’s remaining few teeth were removed. He has recovered well and is feeling much more comfortable now that his mouth is pain‑free.

Artie is still working on house training. He enjoys exploring our fenced yard and does best when he can move around at his own pace. He is not yet comfortable on a leash—when one is put on, he tends to lay down and refuse to move—so a securely fenced yard will be important for his forever home.

Artie is looking for a quiet home with a patient, understanding family who will give him the time he needs to build confidence. He’s not a dog who will settle in overnight, but with consistency, gentle handling, and realistic expectations, he has the potential to continue making progress.

If you have a calm home and a soft spot for the underdogs—the ones who just need a little extra patience—Artie may be the right fit for you.

Adoption Fee: $560 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
