A Note from the Foster: Hi! I’m Bonnie! My foster family says I’m the sweetest little girl with the prettiest eyes and softest fur. I’m told that I’m a Pomeranian Chihuahua mix at 1 years old and 7 pounds. 

My foster family says I’m what they like to call a “Velcro dog”. I love to follow my foster family around the house and am always ready for snuggles— especially if there is a soft cuddly blanket! 

When I’m not observing my foster family or cuddling on a cloud (aka a soft blanket), I have no problem exploring the house to find the next toy I can de-stuff. I’m not a fan of toys that squeak, but I don’t think all that stuffing needs to be inside, so I go to work and get it out! 

In other news, my foster family says I’m very smart. I know how to do stairs, am doing well going potty outside on a schedule in a fenced yard, walk well on a leash, and am trying very hard to learn basic commands. I even taught myself how to use the electric dog door after watching the resident dog use it!

Crate training has also been going well. I have no problem being in there during the day, but definitely get excited when my foster family returns from work and breaks me free, so I can greet them with kisses, tail wags, and let them know how much I missed them! And as long as I can see you, I’ll sleep through the night without a peep.

I’m a great watchdog and true to the Chihuahua in me, I’ll alert you to any strange and/or unfamiliar noises with several barks. Once the noise passes, I settle down quickly to my usual sweet quiet self.

My foster family says I’m an easygoing girl, and haven’t had any issues with the resident dog (male/pomeranian). We’ve even been found snuggling together! 

I haven’t met any kids or cats yet, but with slow introductions I think I could coexist; as long as the kids are gentle with me since I’m a tiny girl.

A Note from the Foster: Hello I’m Bruni. I’m the momma of the “sidekicks litter.” I did a fantastic job, taking care of my babies, but now it’s time to be taken care of myself. I am the happiest girl around! I love snuggling up with my people! I do well in my kennel and am completely potty trained. I’m a bit of a counter surfer so make sure all food is put away. I’m a great listener though! However, if I don’t want to listen, I will move so very slowly in an attempt to sneak, even though we’re both looking straight at each other as I do it. A Note from the Foster: Hello Everyone! Thank you for checking out my profile. I would love to tell you a few things about myself. You see....I had a family and something happened and I wasn't able to stay with them. They had to leave me behind. I found my way to Coco's Heart Dog Rescue and I had a hidden surprise (10 surprises to be exact)! I was pregnant!!

I have had my babies, they are weaned and ready to look for their new homes just like me! Foster Mom says I was an amazing mom. Patient, attentive and dedicated. I really do love being with my babies, but I love being able to run and play even more! I love to chase the ball, chew on toys and snuggle on the couch.

 I walk very well on a leash and am quiet in the kennel. I love going on car rides too! I'm a great copilot, but don't ask me for directions if we get lost. I am potty trained too! I have been such a good girl that I have been allowed to sleep on a dog bed in Foster Mom's room at night and it's the best! If I do need to go in the kennel I don't mind that either. Foster Mom says I'm an easy keeper.

A Note from the Foster: Hi, I'm Jackie! I'm a smart, incredibly sweet, very high energy girl looking for the perfect forever home. I was at Coco's previously and adopted, but I couldn't get along with the resident cat, so I'm back looking for a cat-free and small animal free home. I LOVE other dogs and would do great in a home where I have a playmate. I would also do well with children if they are a little older and can help remind me not to jump up on them. I still have a lot of puppy in me and am working on my manners. Jumping up and pulling on the leash while being walked are the things I am currently working on. I'm so smart and very gentle hearted (except to cats and squirrel's). With exercise and consistent training my foster mom is positive I'll the best dog. I'm already doing great with potty training, sleeping through the night in my crate and most commands (sit, wait, give). Once I've had enough exercise I love napping and a good snuggle on the couch. I'll curl right up with you and give you as much love as you want. 

What I need to be a good dog for you is a solid 2-3 mile walk in the morning, some fetch time and maybe second walk every day. Firm but gentle reminders not to jump up are helpful, but what I want most is your praise, belly rubs and love.

A Note from the Foster:  Mallory is a sweet and elegant girl, very loyal and can be super affectionate. With her very long sleek legs, she loves to jump and play in the snow and run along with my hubby when he goes cross country skiing. She needs morning kisses and evenings on the sofa with her head in your lap. She can be protective of her people (as sharpei's are) but also mothering to new foster pups we have had. She may take some time warming up to you but is gentle and very calm as she gets to know you.  She travels well in the car in her kennel and prefers to sleep on the couch - I think she likes the space to stretch out. A Note from the Foster: Marge has made steady progress over the last 5 months! I think the biggest thing her forever home will need to know is that she will make progress over months and not days. But other than the fact that she doesn't like being touched, she is a sassy girl who loves life and romping around the backyard - even in the snow! She like to be on neighborhood watch and bark at the neighborhood dogs and her favorite snack is a fried egg. She'll throw her head and bark at me if I'm too slow chopping it up with scissors - apparently I am always too slow for her liking :)

She used to have about a 6 foot bubble of distance she'd always keep between her and I and now it's about 1 foot. Marge will now take food out of my hand after working on it consistently for about 2 months. She is doing better with simple commands like "come inside" and she just recently started spending time on the couch with my resident dog and I! She is on anti anxiety meds currently and we're not sure if they're as effective as we'd hope for them to be so we might try a new one in the new year.

She has a huge personality and has been so fun to get to know. I'm confident that with consistency, she will continue to make progress!

A Note from the Foster: Hi! My name is Marsha but my foster family usually just calls me “pretty pittie” because have you seen my gorgeous stripes and sweet heart nose? 🥰

I am young, athletic, smart, energetic, and loving. A human with a lot of those same qualities would be my perfect match! I am already crate trained and housetrained. I've even been going to obedience classes! The trainers say they love me and that I should do competitive obedience because I am so good! I am learning things like "heel", "down", "stay", and "wait" and I learn them really fast because I am a doggie genius. I have also gotten much better about walking nicely on a leash and not jumping on people to say hello - instead I just wag my tail really fast and wiggle because I love everyone so much!

I live with two teenage boys and love them a lot. I also live with 2 other dogs - both girls like me! It took a while for me to trust them but we hang out with each other now. I still don’t want to play with them though. I’d probably be happiest as your one and only pet.

History and A Note from the Foster: Meredith is a quirky, smart girl that really enjoys life! She was recently returned to rescue due to not getting along with the resident dog and other reactivity concerns. Meredith does need to be the only dog in the home because of the reactivity but she still gets along and is playful with other dogs. Smart as a whip, she knows many commands including: sit, twirl, kennel, dance, play dead (all the way - to finalize), and many others. Very quick to pick up on cues in our home as well, she knows "inside" when she is called to come in and generally good about responding quickly to the command. She is so good about letting you know when she wants to go outside and has figured out how to open certain door handles. Meredith is not a counter surfer but is very motivated by food which has been great for training.

She is very comfortable in the kennel but we have no concerns in leaving her out of her kennel while we're gone, she loves to just sit by the window and watch the world until you return! A couple of things that Meredith is working on: she does like to eat poop so we do ensure that when she goes outside that we pick it up right away and sometimes means correcting her when she tries to eat it right away. She is always so happy and energetic when her people come home so she can sometimes show that by placing your arm or shirt in her mouth to pull you to where she wants to go, she responds well to correction for this though.

Meredith loves walks and she is definitely in her teenage phase with bursts of energy and she loves to play whether it's fetch, tug, chase, or just running around. Belly rubs are her absolute favorite and she is slow to warm for snuggles but when you get them, you know they are well earned! She's such a fun, sweet, unique girl to have around!!

A Note from the Foster: Hi, my name is Milkshake, and I recently arrived at rescue to start a fabulous new chapter in life.  You see… I used to be a mama - my Milkshake brought all the dogs to the yard (if you know what I mean) - but I'm solo now, and it is MY time to shine!

Even though I’ve only been in my foster home a short time, I fit right in. I’m a friendly, sweet, silly, certified lovebug. Personal space? Never heard of it. If you’re sitting down, I would like to be closer. Closer than that. Perfect.

I’m fully potty trained (zero accidents - because I’m a lady), and I’m quiet and calm in my kennel day or night. It’s my safe place, my cozy little retreat where I rest and recharge for all my important activities.

I immediately became besties with the resident dog. We love playing chase or hanging out and chewing on bones! I’m also a pretty good self-entertainer. I have a big basket of toys, and I love to toss them around or show them off...until they squeak. Then we need to have a serious conversation about why it made that noise… and I may retreat to my hiding place (don't tell anyone - it's under the bed) to reconsider my life choices.

I am new to life in a home, so I’m still working on the basics - leash walking, commands, manners, and bravely battling the household “monsters” (vacuum, hair dryer, blender… very suspicious creatures). But each day is easier, and snacks are my absolute favorite, so I learn quickly when treats are involved!

And to top it all off? I am the softest girl, with the prettiest light brown/hazel eyes and naturally fabulous white eyelashes. Yes, they’re real.  Oh, and my ears - adorable when they stick up with all those gray/brown spots!!

History: We recently welcomed a group of adult Wheaten Terriers who were being released from a commercial breeding program after the program was selling out. It is a big feat for these and any future wheatens that would have been produced from this program.

The ones who came to CHDR are doing well in their foster homes but very shut down and timid yet. They will thrive with patient and confident adopters who are willing to put the time into growing a bond with their new dog as it may take some time to develop but these dogs are SO SO worth it. They are amazing souls who each deserve their forever home!

A Note from the Foster: 🌾 Meet Orlaith (“Orly”) – Our Golden Princess 🌾

Orlaith (pronounced Or-la) means “Golden Princess,” and while her past may not have treated her like one, her future absolutely should.

Orly is a soft-coated Wheaten Terrier who recently came from a commercial breeding environment. While she was reported to be around 2 years old, her medical team believes she is likely closer to 8–9 years old. After arriving in rescue, Orly underwent emergency surgery to address severe infection, including the removal of all but two of her teeth. She is also currently being treated for chronic ear infections.

Despite everything she has endured, Orly is showing us something beautiful:

she is gentle, observant, and quietly curious about the world around her.

A Note from the Foster: Paisley is adorable and super friendly! Her playful energy and boundless curiosity are so fun to see. Sheentered her foster home like she had always lived here. She loves meeting new people and other dogs. There is an older golden retriever in the home she is learning the best skills from and another puppy that keeps her exercised and entertained.

She is walking good on a leash with a lot of stops to sniff and explore. She enjoys playing in the yard and is learning to come when called. She will sit nice for a treat. She is very playful but also loves cuddling.

Paisley is working on potty training with regular outdoor time. She loves to chew so she needs to be redirected with toys. She is doing really well in her crate.

Paisley is so smart, with a little more training, she will be the best little girl!

A Note from the Foster: She is a great dog, I think she would do well in almost any environment, very patient and easy going. 

She loves to play with our dogs without trying to be dominant, is interested in the cat but respects his space, and even seems to be safe around the chickens. No accidents since her first night here, she learns quickly and wants to please. She doesn't like the kennel and will bark off and on to see if she can get out, but does fine with being confined in one room. She hasn't chewed up anything or damaged anything, and she loves to chew antlers and is curious about toys. She knows how to sit and learned how to use the dog door quickly. She listens well most of the time (just not when we tell her to get off the couch) and is improving on the leash. She is a little challenging to walk, kind of all over the place like she doesn't know where to go, but when I jog she matches pace and stays by my side with a loose leash. She will try to take off if there's a squirrel, but nothing else seems to phase her.

She has thick hair right now, I think she was an outdoor dog in her previous life. She doesn't really act like a husky, no yodeling, no escape attempts that we've seen. She is long and low, more like a large corgi maybe?

Pearl greets everyone with a smile and follows us from room to room, patiently devoted. It's hard to describe what a good dog she is, and we've had a lot of dogs. She's going to be someone's best friend.

History: Poe FKA Blanc was recently returned to rescue when she was no longer a fit for her adopted home. She has received her cherry eye surgery and is doing well!

She has not been spayed yet due to holding until she is 2 years old and full grown. Her adopter will sign a spay contract and will need to commit to the potential ongoing care she as a Great Dane will require. She hopes to find her forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster: Poe is a fun-loving, energetic, and incredibly cuddly gal who doesn’t let a little cherry eye dull her sparkle. She adores toys of all kinds—rope, stuffies, sticks, bones are all her jam! She also loves neighborhood walks and soaking up every bit of affection she can get.

Poe is potty-trained with regular outdoor breaks and a bit of encouragement to “go potty.” She’s also crate-trained and settles down nicely after a few moments of barking.

While Poe is a sweetheart with people and other dogs, she’s developing a prey drive toward her current foster’s cat, so a cat-free home would be best. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or as the center of someone’s world.

After playtime, Poe is happiest curling up next to you, gently resting her head in your lap, and snoozing the day away. She’s ready to bring joy, energy, and snuggles to her forever family!

My favorite playmates are puppies (they’re just so silly!), but honestly, I enjoy hanging out with just about anyone. After playtime, I’m equally happy curling up for some downtime with you. I love butt scratches, snuggles, and just being close to my people.

I’m a flexible girl—whether your family is active and on the go or you love lazy days on the couch, I’ll happily keep up with your pace. When it’s time to play, you’ll usually find me with a soft stuffed toy in my mouth—my absolute favorite! A Note from the Foster: Sheila is a gorgeous 7 month old Pyrenees with the sweetest, gentlest disposition, and is a friend to everyone she meets. She and our three resident small breed dogs have gotten along terrifically from the moment she arrived, she's been curious but respectful of them and their space. She's also curious but respectful about our cat who has been a bit intimidated by her size so not a lot of direct interaction. 

Sheila is fantastic with kids of all ages, she really likes our 12 year old with big tail wags when she sees her and shows her belly for belly rubs. 

She's done great with house training, no accidents in the house with regular consistent potty breaks. She walks really well on lead and enjoys checking out the neighborhood during walks. She doesn't pull or weave and checks in with whoever is handling her on walks. She sometimes needs extra coaxing to get up and go outside, being most content to lay on her blanket by the front door and just chill out where she can watch everyone in the house. Her manners are pretty good, she doesn't beg at the dinner table, doesn't resource guard food, water or toys and has only chewed on dog approved chew toys. She's only barked a handful of times and at what we'd consider appropriate things most dogs would bark at.

She does ok in her kennel but we haven't felt a great need to kennel her much in her time with us. She's not at all a fan of baths - we failed the dog wash at the pet store when she leapt out of the tub to avoid the water hose and there was no getting her back in :). She doesn't mind being brushed at all which is great because she is going to need A LOT of brushing. She has a beautiful, thick, fluffy white coat that shimmers like tinsel in the sun.

Momma Sue’s story began on a stranger’s porch several states away, where she bravely delivered her beautiful babies. Thankfully, she and her little family were welcomed with open arms by Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue — and I’ve had the absolute honor of fostering her and her puppies ever since.

And let me tell you… she is magic.

She is the gentlest, most devoted Momma.  Patient,  Loving and Calm. The way she looks at her babies — and at her humans — will melt you on the spot. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She blends beautifully with every dog in my home and carries herself with a quiet grace that makes everyone feel at ease.

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue efforts continue all winter long as we have recently welcomed another deserving group from our rural area partners in North Dakota.

A Note from the Foster: Sugar Bean is doing great. She has been with us for nearly a year now and is a wonderful family dog. She did amazing around many people throughout the holidays. While she is great with older children, she doesn’t always know how to play with younger ones and can be a bit too rough for them. This is an update that could be added to her profile.

Here are a few more things we have learned about Bean:

  - Toy Enthusiast: She loves playing with her toys and goes crazy for rubber balls. We got her a glow-in-the-dark ball that keeps her easily entertained for at least 30 minutes.
  - Winter Lover: She absolutely adores the snow and cold. She would happily stay outside all day in -20° weather if we let her!
  - Daily Zoomies: She has regular "zoomies" (both indoors and out) to let us know when she’s excited or happy.
  - Happy Noises: She makes a series of little grunts when she is happy and content, usually while snuggling next to us on the couch.

She is a sweet, unique, and playful pup whose personality shines every day. Anyone would be lucky to have her.

A Note from the Foster: Sweetie here - I decided it was time to update my profile. My foster mom says I’ve made fantastic progress since coming from ND in early November. 

First off - I don’t take the best selfies but I am beautiful! I have a soft white double coat like a husky and the cute ears of an Aussie. I’d love to meet you in person so you see my beauty inside and out. 

Although I have limited vision and hearing I live a normal dog life. Once you meet me you’ll see how I don’t let these things interfere from living my best life. 

The most important thing I’m looking for in my forever home is an active owner/family that loves outdoor activities. I need a home with outdoor space - a fenced yard would be perfect for me. I love to run laps daily to stay in shape and burn off energy.  Apartment life is definitely not for me. 

A few more things about me. My foster mom says I’m loyal and affectionate. I jingle the bells on the door when I want to go potty. I’ve learned to walk on a leash and enjoy them. I do well with other dogs - ideally a companion dog would be similar in size and like to play and run.   

I’m only 2 so I still have some puppy energy. I’m curious and follow my foster mom everywhere. I love having a variety of toys and bones to chew on and carry around the house.

A Note from the Foster: Thelma came to rescue from Texas and has adapted well to the northern winters. She is friendly around people and is overcoming her timid characteristic. It takes her a little while to warm up to new dogs, but once she realizes they are not aggressive she is fine with them and willing to associate.

She keeps her kennel clean and sleeps quietly in it all night. She is a very slow eater, so it would be best to feed her separately or in her kennel so that she can eat at her own pace.

Overall she is a great dog and would love to find her forever home so she can be loved on. She doesn't appear to be interested in cats at all. So I think k would be fine in a home with cats or other dogs.... or just herself in a home.

At around 6 months old, this Shepherd/Husky/Pittie mix is the full package: incredibly smart, endlessly affectionate, full of playful personality—and quite possibly the biggest snuggler you’ll ever meet.

Tova’s journey began with a rescue through Out of The Cold, where she was brought in from a reservation in Northern North Dakota. She had a tough start, arriving underweight and needing medical care, but thanks to her dedicated vet team and loving foster family, she has completely transformed. Now she’s thriving—healthy, happy, and growing into her big paws and wiggly, joyful self.

Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful!
