History: We recently welcomed a group of adult Wheaten Terriers who were being released from a commercial breeding program after the program was selling out. It is a big feat for these and any future wheatens that would have been produced from this program.
The ones who came to CHDR are doing well in their foster homes but very shut down and timid yet. They will thrive with patient and confident adopters who are willing to put the time into growing a bond with their new dog as it may take some time to develop but these dogs are SO SO worth it. They are amazing souls who each deserve their forever home!
A Note from the Foster: 🌾 Meet Orlaith (“Orly”) – Our Golden Princess 🌾
Orlaith (pronounced Or-la) means “Golden Princess,” and while her past may not have treated her like one, her future absolutely should.
Orly is a soft-coated Wheaten Terrier who recently came from a commercial breeding environment. While she was reported to be around 2 years old, her medical team believes she is likely closer to 8–9 years old. After arriving in rescue, Orly underwent emergency surgery to address severe infection, including the removal of all but two of her teeth. She is also currently being treated for chronic ear infections.
Despite everything she has endured, Orly is showing us something beautiful:
she is gentle, observant, and quietly curious about the world around her.
💛 Orly’s Personality
Orly is a sensitive soul who is just beginning to discover what safety feels like.
Gentle and calm
Quietly curious
Enjoys being outside and exploring at her own pace
Observes her people closely and is starting to build trust
She is not demanding or high-energy — instead, she is the kind of dog who will bloom slowly and meaningfully in the right home.
🌿 Daily Life with Orly
Orly is already showing wonderful progress in her routine:
She does a great job going potty outside and clearly prefers it
She will use a piddle pad if needed while she continues learning
She has access to a kennel as a safe space, but the door remains open at all times so she never feels confined
She is learning that she has choices now — and that makes a big difference for dogs like her.
🌿 What Orly Needs
Orly is still early in her healing journey, both physically and emotionally. She will need an adopter who understands that love for a dog like her looks like patience, consistency, and compassion.
Her ideal home will include:
A secure fenced yard (required)
(She does not yet have leash skills and is not safe for walks at this time.)
A calm, predictable environment
A family willing to:
continue her medical care (ears and follow-ups)
support her as she learns to trust and decompress
celebrate small milestones
Because of her ongoing medical needs, Orly will be placed as a foster-to-adopt to ensure she continues progressing with the right support.
🩺 Medical Notes
Recently had a major dental procedure (only two teeth remain)
Currently being treated for ear infections
Eating soft foods and doing well with continued care
✨ The Right Match
Orly is not a “plug-and-play” dog — and that’s exactly what makes her so special.
She is looking for someone who sees the beauty in:
the first tail flick
the first step toward you
the quiet moments of trust
With time, safety, and love, dogs like Orly don’t just adjust — they transform.
💫 From Survivor to Princess
Orly has spent her life surviving. Now, she deserves to learn what it means to be safe, cherished, and home.
If you have the heart and patience to walk alongside her on this journey, you will get to witness something truly extraordinary.
Orlaith (“Orly”) is ready for her next chapter — and we promise, she is worth it. 💛

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
