History: We recently welcomed a group of adult Wheaten Terriers who were being released from a commercial breeding program after the program was selling out. It is a big feat for these and any future wheatens that would have been produced from this program.
The ones who came to CHDR are doing well in their foster homes but very shut down and timid yet. They will thrive with patient and confident adopters who are willing to put the time into growing a bond with their new dog as it may take some time to develop but these dogs are SO SO worth it. They are amazing souls who each deserve their forever home!
A Note from the Foster: Meet Orlaith (“Orly”) – Our Golden Princess ✨
Orlaith, meaning Golden Princess, has come such a long way and is finally starting to enjoy the life she deserves.
While her breeder reported her as 2 years old, our vet believes she is more likely 8–9. We think she falls somewhere in between—but no matter her age, she has so much love and life ahead of her.
Orly is a gentle, curious girl who has learned how to settle and feel safe in a home. Her pacing has stopped, she responds to her name, and will even greet you with a little excited whine in the mornings. She’s discovered cozy napping spots (including a favorite closet!) and loves being near her people and dog friends.
She is also an outdoor-loving girl—whether she’s exploring the yard or napping in the sun by her favorite garden rock. A secure fenced yard is required, as this is where she is happiest and most confident.
Orly is a great eater, enjoying softened kibble, and does a wonderful job going potty outside. She is no longer on any medications and is officially ready for adoption.
She does not yet have leash skills and is not a crate dog—she prefers to relax freely, often sprawled out next to her dog friends on the rug.
Orly would thrive in a calm, patient home that will continue to let her grow at her own pace. She may be a quieter soul, but the bond you build with her will be something truly special.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful!
