Sloan

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: Est DOB: 08/2025
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Yes
Kid Friendly: Likely due to young age
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Sloan needed a second chance at a good life and arrived to rescue with the help of Lightshine Rescue whose efforts are focused on a rural reservation in South Dakota where resources are low.

A Note from the Foster: 🐾 Meet your new best friend, Sloan. He is a puppy who simply wants to cuddle. “Sloanie Bologna” has been the easiest addition to his foster home. He truly has the kindest, most gentle heart and is happiest when he is by your side. Sloan has a pure heart and is immediately a mushy pile of sweetness and puppy kisses each time he meets a new friend.

Sloan LOVES affection-gentle pets, silly dog-talk, goofy face rubs, and even a little roughhousing. He's incredibly tolerant and takes love in all its forms.

Mr Sloan is a lover of a puppy and he is always happy to see you. For someone looking for easy companionship, Sloan is a phenomenal fit.

🩺 Health: Sloan is a very healthy boy and got an “A+” on his most recent vet visit. They shared he looks great and so he is scheduled for his neuter appointment. He does have a small eye infection that is being handling with an eye gel that is working well so he should be rid of it in no time.

🚗 Travel: Soon after getting Sloan, his foster mom noticed that his tummy doesn’t feel the best in the car. Due to this, he does have a prescription to help. This is great news because he loves car rides and is a great passenger prince.

💩 Potty Training: Sloan is doing great with training. He is eager to please and picks up on commands and repetition very quickly. His accidents are few and his foster mom says there should be no issues with him being fully potty trained very soon.

😴 Sleep Habits: He sleeps in a crate in his foster parents’ room at night. Sloan goes easily into the crate and settles in with his “night kong”, and then sleeps through the night from about 9:30pm-7:00am. He is quiet in his crate and keeps it clean!

🐶🐱 Relationships: Sloan has two foster dog siblings, Honey and Bo. They are playful corgis who love Sloan. He is respectful of them and also so gentle. He takes queues from them and learns quickly. There is no toy aggression or resource guarding. There are also two foster cat siblings in the house. Sloan doesn’t have too much interest in them, although they don’t interact much as the kitties keep to themselves downstairs. Sloan has met a new foster pal who is at the house for a couple of days and the introduction was smooth and they are getting along well.

💛 So, if you are in the market for an easygoing, love bug of a puppy dog pal, Sloan is the guy for you. He would love to meet you so he can give you some kisses and snuggles to show you how perfect of a fit he would be for your family.

Adoption Fee: $760 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
