Ray

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Mini Poodle
Age: Est DOB: 04/2019
Weight: 11 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Ray is a super handsome boy who was recently welcomed to rescue and will warm your heart with his smile and happy personality. He has his paws crossed to find his forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster: Hi! My name is Ray. My foster mom (mom) call’s me Raymond and my foster dad (dad) calls me Sugar Ray. They say I’m a 7 year old mini poodle. All I know is I am “Such a good boy!”.

My mom came and picked me up the night I made it to Coco’s Heart from the loud and cramped place I was living. She brought me to her home and has so much patience and love for me. I’m still scared of new people but with mom by me I am brave and try to say hi to them. I’ve recently found my voice and use it quite a lot when mom leaves me to go to work and when she comes home. I love my mom very much! She says I’m her shadow when she is home. Mom has taught me how to play with little stuffed animals and every day we play a game of chase while I’m holding one of them. I love this game! When mom’s outside doing yard work she has me on a long leash so I can be by her but also smell all the good things in the grass and flowers. Mom and I enjoy going for walks twice a day. I like getting some exercise and being able to do ‘my business’ at the same time. I’m not potty trained let me be honest about that. I’m working hard at it- if I can go outside on a schedule I am pretty good about it. Mom does keep a belly band on me when she isn’t able to keep an eye on me all the time to be safe. I am an excellent sleeper! I sleep all night on mom’s bed. I don’t wake her up- I lay quietly until she wakes up and says good morning to me. I love getting belly rubs from her in the morning. After breakfast mom does brush me and cleans my eyes and beard. Mom has me on a special diet because I have a sensitive tummy right now. Dad pours beef broth over my kibble to soften it because I had 20 teeth removed. Dad puts two medications in my breakfast. One is for my hips and knees and the other is an anti-anxiety medication that has helped me calm down and enjoy life. The vet told mom I will most likely need to take these medications forever but they are not expensive.

I will HAVE to be on a leash any time I am out of the house because I will run and I do not come back to you when you call my name. I will also need to visit the groomer about every 6 weeks to get a shampoo and hair cut. After 6 weeks I look pretty shaggy!

Mom tells me she would love to keep me but there is another dog out there needs to come live with her and learn how to be a dog like I have. I live with a resident female black lab and we get along fine. I’m not a huge fan of dad. I think it is because the men that took care of me in the place I lived in before were not very nice to me. I’ve gotten better since he started feeding me my meals and he gives me yummy treats. I don’t think I would be very good around little kids because fast movements scare me.

Adoption Fee: $510 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
