Rascal

Adoption Status: Pending

Gender: Male
Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Age: Est DOB: 06/2024
Weight: 37 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: No
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Yes

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue efforts continue all winter long as we have recently welcomed another deserving group from our rural area partners in North Dakota.

A Note from the Foster: Hi everyone, Rascal here, and I was told by my foster Mom I need to tell everyone a little bit more about myself.

First of all I love kids.  I have found these little humans to be so much fun, especially when they give me pets, hugs and belly rubs. And since I am not that big, only 37 pounds, I am a great kids size.  I love to give them kisses, but if the little ones do not like that I will stop when asked.

Another thing I love is water.  I started with a little creek and found slashing in it was so much fun.  Next I tried wading in the shallows, just to see how I like a little deeper water, and again I loved it.  So of course as we were walking down a trail by the river I had to check it out.  But I did not anticipate the bank would be so steep and slippery and so I sort of slipped, ok I fell into the river.  But that was ok, I had a harness on so Mom was able to pull me out right away.  And that was so much fun I wanted to do it again, but Mom, the spoil sport, would not let me.  She said one dunking per day was enough.

That brings me to another thing I love to do and that is walks. Whether it is a trail through the woods, along the river or just around the neighborhood I do not care I just love doing it.  My foster Mom will take me and my foster sister out on long leashes and we just love running back and forth smelling everything.  But I am very good and do not pull, I will go to the end of the leash if I am allowed, but I know where the end of the leash is, and will stop when I come to it.  Also when asked I have a pretty good heal, if I do say so myself, but I have to say sniffing and checking everything out is more fun, so while I do heal I am not a big fan of doing it for a long time.

As I said I do have a foster sister and I love love love to play with her.  We do chase, we do tug of war with our rope toy,  and we even have a game where we will share a toy, taking turns playing with the same toy.  I am not sure why but she alway seems to want to play with the toy I happen to have.  But that is OK with me, I like to share. So if you have a furry family member who would love to have a friend to play with I would love to meet him or her.  And of course after some great play time I will cuddle with my foster Mom with my head on her lap just so it is easy for her to pet me as I fall asleep.

And that brings me to night time.  I am a good sleeper, I sleep in my crate all night without a peep.  I found Mom is not really a morning person so by the time she gets up I am awake and patiently waiting for her to let me outside to do my business.  And I am very good at that too, no accidents in the house.  I know outside is for going potty and I will go to the door to let my foster Mom know when I have to go.

So that is me.  If I sound like someone who will fit into your family I would love to meet you.  I so love meeting new people and I know I would love meeting you.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
