Age: Est DOB: 11/2018
Weight: 60 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: No

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own!

A Note from the Foster: Phoenix was welcomed to rescue from the 2025 OOTC rescue effort in November. It was very clear that he has been through a lot, and needed lots of love and care. Pheonix was battling a lot, he had a terrible skin infection, mange, scars covering his body, had a large open wound on his paw, and his teeth were ground down from chewing on something very hard or sharp for long periods of time. Through all of it, Pheonix is such a kind and sweet soul. Fast forward to today, he is doing a lot better, we are still working on healing his skin, which will take some time. He is getting medicated baths and on medication to help, he has already made a lot of improvement! He recently got neutered and had his dental surgery where they had to remove some of his worn down teeth, but so far that has not phased him at all.

Pheonix has been such a joy to have at home and very easy to have around. I do feel like some of his spirit is still healing from the trauma he has been through but he has been slowly releasing more and more of his personality as he has been settling in and feeling better physically too. He is potty trained and does all his potty business outside. He does well in his kennel and happily sleeps in there. Currently the things phoenix enjoys the most include sleeping and eating haha! He is always snoozing on a cozy bed or up on the couch cuddled in with me. He is very food motivated and love when it is meal time or treat time. So far Phoenix has not shown much interest in toys yet, but hopefully that will come with time.

Phoenix's interactions with other dogs is something we are taking very slow, it was reported that he was rescued from an environment that other dogs had been picking on him and he is covered in scars to prove it. So far, Phoenix does well with my smaller dogs, a cavalier king Charles and a Pomeranian. He mostly ignores them and they in turn do not pay much attention to Phoenix also. I have noticed that the bigger dogs do make phoenix uncomfortable when they try to approach him but he has been okay with them around, so I have not introduced him to them yet and they stay at a distance for now until phoenix is ready.

Phoenix all around has been a very easy dog to care for, he gives the best snuggles and really melts in to you. I can tell how grateful he is to be here, in a safe, warm and cozy environment. He would be such an amazing companion and it just feels that he is someone's soul dog.

Adoption Fee: $510 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
