History: We recently welcomed a group of animals who needed help from various unfortunate situations in rural areas down south. Whether overcrowded shelters or unclaimed impounds, they have a second chance at finding their forever homes and hope to meet you soon!
A Note from the Foster: Ozzy is a sweet, lazy boy ready to find his family!
He came to our house 5 weeks ago and immediately melted into our arms and hearts. He loves cuddles on the couch, belly rubs, and just being around people. For a four month old puppy, he's surprisingly laid back. He does have moments throughout the day (especially when tired) when his puppy traits are on display and he attempts to bite at clothes and legs and other things that require redirection. We have two young kids and because of this playful biting, we've been keeping him leashed when around them. We think he will be good with kids, but he's still learning how to appropriately interact with them. We have two cats and Ozzy respects their boundaries. He has never attempted to chase or play with them. We have another foster puppy and Ozzy loves playing with him.
Ozzy is picking up on training and is very food motivated. In controlled environments, he understands "sit" "leave it" "drop it" and "kennel". He sleeps in his kennel through the night and chooses to lay in it throughout the day. We are still taking him out every two hours when not in his kennel to prevent accidents. He's been accident-free for several weeks and he's starting to show us cues when he needs to go out.
Being outside was pretty overwhelming for Ozzy when he first came to us. He would get very easily startled by sounds in the distance/people/dogs/squirrels and would want to immediately go back inside. He has made a lot of progress with this! He now wags his tail when he sees new people and gets much less nervous about sudden sounds.
Ozzy eats all his meals in his kennel. He has a "slo bowl" to ensure slower eating. He has shown some resource guarding and we're continuing to work with him on that (the "drop it" command is working well).
Ozzy has the traits to be a really great dog. He would do best in a home with people dedicated to continue working with him on training and overcoming some of his fears.
Adoption Fee: $760 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
