Ivy

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Female
Breed: Dachshund Mix
Age: Est DOB: 12/2014
Weight: 24 lbs (overweight)
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Seems to be
House Trained: Doing great!

History: 🧡 From Texas to Midwest 🤠—- A group of deserving dogs was recently welcomed as part of our Texas Transport Program! A program launched to make an impactful difference for our partner shelters in Texas facing the overpopulation of animals with limited resources and low adoption rates. We are excited to help these southern gems find loving forever homes to call their own!

A Note from the Foster: Ivy is doing great with us! She gets along with our dogs. She hasn’t been around young kids but would do fine with older kids. She is friendly to every new person she meets.

Ivy is definitely a lap dog. If someone is sitting, she wants to be on their lap or sleeping next to them. If you have a blanket, even better. She’s really good at burrowing under blankets.

In order for Ivy to be her happiest, she’s going to need a person or family who likes to give their dog attention, who likes it when a dog wants to cuddle or snug on your chest. She’s not a licker at all, but sometimes she wants to be very close. And sometimes she really needs to be petted. She is going to need to sleep with a person too.

If Ivy can’t be with you she hangs out in her favorite chair with a blanket or she chews on small puppy bones.

Ivy rides great in a car and likes going with you places.

She likes going on short walks.

Once in a while she gets the zoomies and runs around the house a little bit.

We are home most of the day, but when we are away she stays in a wire kennel. She is not totally housetrained, but does great on a schedule.

Ivy is very food motivated. She knows how to sit for a treat. She loves food so much she can be a little bitey taking the treat so we just make sure we’re giving it to her in a way that she can’t do that. We are working on her losing weight and she’s about 20 pounds now. Having her lose weight has made it easier to pick her up because she’s a little skittish about being picked up.

Ivy has a grade 3 luxating patella on both rear legs but they don’t seem to bother her.

She may do best in a house without a lot of stairs. She goes up and down the few stairs in and out of the house. She doesn’t use our five deck stairs outside but she can go down and up them. We have wooden stairs between floors in our house and if I go up she will follow me up. But she will never go down. She barks at me either to come back up or go get her.

Once in a while she barks when she thinks she isn’t getting her food fast enough. And sometimes she whines when she can’t be where you are.

Ivy is a really sweet dog, if you think she could be a fit for you please apply!

Adoption Fee: $510 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
