Granite

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: Est DOB: 11/2025
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Yes
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: In progress. He tries really hard despite all odds against him!

History and A Note from the Foster: Our sweet little Granite arrived to rescue with his mom and littermates. He is the "litte engine that could!". He was much, much smaller than his siblings and also could not get around normally- wobbling and tripping over his legs that did not seem to work quite right. We knew there was an unknown neuro concern with him and he was placed in a special-needs foster home right away. With the help of our veterinary team and neurologist, we were able to confirm that he does have a spinal deformity. We were hoping that there would be a "fix" for him, but there is not. Instead, he has the potential to live a life (of unknown length- depending on the quality of life he has as he grows older) with laser treatments, water therapy, a wheel chair, and supportive care. This little guy is worth every ounce of effort thrown his way! He is just a little tyke but will grow, of course. He needs a family that is committed to all knowns and unknowns. His long-term supportive care (laser treatments, therapy, etc...) may be costly but crucial. As long as he is comfortable and happy- he could live many years. However, having the mind and heart to know that his quality of life supersedes time of life is an important task.

Is there a family out there that can give him their very best? We hope to hear from you! Granite deserves the world, and more!

Update from his foster family-

Granite is now 12 weeks old and continues to grow into the happiest little puppy. Granite was born with congenital neurological spinal differences that affect how his rear legs work. But if you ask Granite, he’s just a puppy who loves to zoom around, follow his big foster sister Willow, and be part of whatever his people are doing.

He may have a little wobble in his step, but Granite’s spirit is unstoppable. While he moves a little differently than a typical puppy, it certainly doesn’t slow him down. He has figured out how to get around very well in his own way and is determined to be part of everything going on around him.

✨ Medical Care

Granite is already off to a great start and is ready for his forever family.

· ✔️ Up to date on all vaccinations
· ✔️ Already neutered

✨ Mobility & Progress

From my perspective as his foster mom, Granite is incredibly determined. With good traction surfaces like rugs or yoga mats, he moves around the house very well and can easily get wherever he wants to go.

He’s currently attending hydrotherapy and we’re also doing gentle strengthening exercises at home, including therapy ball work, to help build muscle and coordination.

🏡 Daily Life & Routine

Granite has settled beautifully into our daily routine.

· 🌿 We’re working on potty training using an indoor artificial grass potty area, which is easier for him to manage

· 🌙 He sleeps overnight in a playpen setup and usually wakes me once during the night to go potty — and typically goes within about five minutes

· 🍽️ He’s a great eater

· 🚗 He rides wonderfully in a kennel in the car

· 🧸 He enjoys exploring and being part of daily life around the house

💛 Temperament & Personality

Granite has one of those personalities that just makes people fall in love with him.

· 🐶 He gets along fabulously with my resident Great Pyrenees, Willow, and it’s so fun to watch the two of them interact together
· 🐱 He shows very little interest in cats
· ❤️ He’s incredibly sweet and loves being around people
· 🧠 He’s very smart and catches on quickly to cues like “leave it” until he hears “okay,” even when treats are offered or his food dish is set down
· 🐾 He also takes cues from Willow — if he’s getting a little mischievous, he immediately pays attention when she corrects him
· 🐕 Despite his wobbly back legs, he happily zooms around and does his best to keep up with Willow
· 😊 He has an over-the-top happy-go-lucky personality that makes everyone smile when they meet him

Living with Granite is truly a joy. His determination and sweet spirit have a way of melting hearts more and more every day.

❤️ Granite’s Perfect Home

Granite would do best with a family who understands his mobility challenges and is excited to support him as he grows stronger. He benefits from a little extra time and encouragement, and he responds wonderfully to it.

An ideal home for Granite would include:

· 🏡 Someone willing to continue his simple exercises and hydrotherapy routine
· 🐶 A friendly dog sibling could be a bonus (he absolutely loves his Great Pyrenees foster sister)
· 🏠 A home with good traction surfaces like rugs or runners to help him move around comfortably
· 🦽 In the future, Granite would likely be a great candidate for adaptive equipment such as a small wheelchair to give him even more freedom and mobility outdoors

Granite doesn’t know he’s any different — he’s just a happy puppy ready to take on the world. He has so much love to give and will absolutely steal the heart of the lucky family who adopts him.

If Granite made you smile, please consider sharing his story so his future family can find him.

Could Granite be the perfect addition to your family? 🐾💙

Adoption Fee: $760 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
