History: George is a handsome medium size lab mix who needed help from an overcrowded shelter. He is a bit timid at first but warms up quickly especially with the help of another dog nearby so having another dog in the home will be most successful for him. He is such a sweet boy who is hoping to find his forever family soon!
A note from the foster: George has made so much progress in his short with me! He has transitioned from being fearful to playful and from being being scared to trusting. George wouldn't even think about growling, biting, or engaging in any mischievous behavior. He simply wants everyone around him to be happy. He enjoys slow introductions to other dogs and even licks cats - no, that's not a typo; he licks them, and he genuinely likes them too.
George is learning how to walk on a leash, and it's less like flying a kite now than it was a week ago. He also responds to commands such as "wait," "sit," and "no." He might howl occasionally in his kennel, but a simple "no" suffices; however, yelling "no" hurts his feelings. He kennels easily! He listens very well to normal word commands, and I appreciate that there's no need for yelling. He is potty trained and understands the concept of going to the bathroom outside, but is not quite ready to have free range of the household yet. He's making more progress daily!
George would thrive in a home environment, though probably without small or loud children, as he is still a little shy. It would be beneficial to have another dog for confidence-building, and a patient owner who understands dogs would be ideal. I can't envision a scenario where he won't flourish if he learns to trust everyone.
He loves being brushed, isn't food aggressive, and has the sweetest eyes.
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
