History: Fiona is a beautiful girl who arrived to rescue under socialized and expecting puppies! Her puppies have all been adopted into wonderful homes (big thanks to their whelping family!) but Fiona needed extra time to work on her trust and confidence. Please read the full bio below before applying!
Fiona has been experiencing urinary leakage and was given a preliminary diagnosis of ectopic ureters, a congenital condition in which the ureters (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder) do not enter the bladder in the normal location. This can lead to constant or intermittent urine dribbling.
To ensure the most accurate diagnosis and best treatment plan, Fiona will be evaluated by specialists at the University of Minnesota for a second opinion.
If her diagnosis is confirmed, Fiona will require surgery to correct the ectopic ureters.
A Note from the Foster: Meet Fiona 💕
Fiona is a 4-year-old Wheaten Terrier whose gentle soul is finally getting the chance to shine. For the first years of her life, she knew only one thing — raising puppies. She was never shown what it meant to be someone’s dog — loved, cherished, and free to just be.
For the past seven months in rescue, Fiona has been learning what the good life feels like: soft beds, kind hands, belly rubs, and quiet moments where she can simply rest. Each day she grows a little braver, a little softer, a little more herself.
She loves being outdoors — soaking up the sunshine, exploring the yard, and quietly watching the world go by. Fiona prefers not to be crated; after years of confinement, she feels safest and most secure with freedom to move about in a calm, predictable home. She does best with another gentle dog and gains confidence from having a canine companion by her side.
Fiona was recently seen by specialists at the University of Minnesota for urinary incontinence. Unfortunately, surgery was not an option for her, but she has been started on medication. She is still in the early stages of treatment, and while it may help, it may not fully resolve the issue. Her future family will need to be understanding and comfortable with the possibility that Fiona may continue to leak urine. This is something her adopters can manage with understanding, routine, and simple accommodations like using washable bedding or diapers, and Fiona remains a happy, comfortable girl.
What Fiona needs most is a patient, dog-savvy family who understands that love doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. A family with a compassionate heart — someone who sees beyond imperfections and understands how much love a dog like her has to give. Fiona doesn’t ask for much — just love, safety, and the chance to keep becoming the dog she was always meant to be. 🌷
If you have room in your heart and home for a tender soul ready to bloom, Fiona is waiting to meet you. 💖
Adoption Fee: $560 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
