History: Azure is a super beautiful girl who was recently welcomed to rescue and will warm your heart. She is working on her trust and confidence and is hoping to find a patient family of her very own soon!
Azure was born with congenital malformations in her hips (bilateral coxofemoral luxation), meaning her hip joints do not sit in the sockets as they normally would. Additionally, her x-rays show some calcification in her lower spine and evidence of a likely herniated disc. While that sounds like a lot for one dog to handle, Azure is managing these abnormalities remarkably well! She does experience occasional limping, but we have seen a significant improvement in her comfort and mobility with a consistent management plan.
Management & Maintenance
To keep Azure feeling her best, she will require daily pain medication. Azure currently takes Carprofen (an anti-inflammatory) twice daily. This has been a game-changer for her mobility. She will also need a high-quality joint supplement like Dasuquin for the rest of her life. She will also need routine lab work: Because she is on long-term NSAID medication, it is vital to monitor her internal health. Her liver and kidney values are currently perfect! Her new family will need to recheck these values in one month, then again in six months, followed by routine "NSAID panels" every six months during her wellness exams. Azure is a candidate for "integrative" care. She responds very well to therapeutic laser treatments, and we highly recommend exploring physical therapy/rehabilitation and acupuncture with her future veterinarian. These therapies help maintain her muscle strength and manage any "off" days she might have.
Azure is looking for a family who understands that she might not be a marathon runner, but she still has plenty of love to give. She needs a home committed to her medication schedule and regular veterinary follow-ups. In return, Azure offers a resilient, loving heart and the chance to see just how much a "specially-abled" dog can thrive with the right support.
A Note from the Foster: She is a sweet girl that is potty trained and sleeping in a kennel overnight and when we are gone. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with toys. Still shy about being on the couch and such, but is enjoying family life and her legs appear to get stronger every day!

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
