History: Aretha is a super beautiful girl who was recently welcomed to rescue and will warm your heart. She is working on her trust and confidence and is hoping to find a patient family of her very own soon!

There is something incredibly special about her… the kind of special you feel the moment you sit beside her.
Her tail starts wagging the second she’s near people—as if she’s quietly saying, “I want to trust you… I really do.” She may be a little shy at first, not quite ready to run into your arms—but she will gently choose a spot right next to you, soaking in your presence and hoping for love in her own quiet way.
And when she leans into you… you’ll understand. Aretha isn’t just looking for a home—she’s looking for someone to believe in her.
Aretha does wonderfully with other small dogs and has already been following one of the resident dogs—she loves having a buddy to follow. It helps her feel safe as she continues to learn about the world
She has not yet been around young children, but she has done well with a teenager. Because of her gentle and slightly shy nature, she would do best in a calm, patient home where she can continue to build confidence at her own pace.
Aretha is still learning potty training and will need patience, consistency, and encouragement. The good news? She truly wants to do well—you can see it in her eyes. She just needs someone to guide her with kindness.
She’s a great eater (and might try to sneak a taste of another pup’s meal if given the chance 😄), so she currently eats separately. At night, she sleeps quietly in her kennel—peaceful, calm, and settling in beautifully.
Aretha is not the kind of dog who will demand attention. She’s the kind who will change your life in the quietest, most meaningful way. The kind who will sit beside you after a long day, rest near you, and simply be grateful.
She doesn’t need perfection. She just needs someone patient… someone kind… someone who will stay.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful!
