History: Watermelon is a sweet girl who arrived to rescue with a few others like her from being discarded by a commercial breeding facility. She was a bit timid at first but was so brave getting off the transport van and waited so patiently for her foster family to come pick her up. She warmed the hearts of those she met with her soulful eyes!
A Note from the Foster: Melly aka “Watermelon” is your typical dane, a real gentle giant. Despite her commanding presence she is, as the breed type suggests, very affectionate, loyal, and loves our children (ages 6 & 9). She plays joyfully with our two smaller dogs and can get a little case of the zoomies in the backyard with the other dogs but is generally a bit lazy. She would do just fine with other dogs and is quite submissive or would love to have a human of her very own. Prior to living with our family, Melly was with a family who had a cat and did fine, mostly amicable and only slightly interested. She is a breeder surrender so she can seem quite timid at first but once she warms up to you, she’s a real Velcro-dog! She keeps her kennel (aka bedorom) clean all night long up to 10 hours. She’s left outside throughout the day and has had no inside accidents since getting spayed. She’s tolerated a bath and submitted to a nail trim with subsequent belly rubs and shredded cheese. Melly just had an echocardiogram for a heart murmur and passed with our veterinarians! She is ready and looking for a loving family of her very own to welcome her FURever <3

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
