A program launched to make an impactful difference for our partner shelters in Texas facing the overpopulation of animals with limited resources and low adoption rates. We are excited to help these southern gems find loving forever homes to call their own!
A Note from the Foster: Thor Axel is a gentle giant! At 1 year old, 95 lbs, and still growing, it is hard to remember that he’s really just a puppy still! While he is gentle and loves ALL the attention, he would definitely benefit from obedience training. He often forgets his size (and weight!) and doesn’t realize that he is not a lap dog, even though he thinks he is! :) His tail never quits wagging!…anything low is in danger of being knocked over! He is enthusiastic and excited about everything!
He came up from Texas, so pretty sure this winter is his first time seeing snow, and he is 100% totally in his element! He loves to romp and run in the snow. A big fenced yard or country home with plenty of space would be ideal for him!
Thor is doing very well house training. He is also very quiet in his kennel (which is giant size!) and rarely barks. With a routine schedule he’ll get his house training completed in no time. He loves things to chew on…toys, bully sticks, bones, etc.
Thor is good with kids, but because he has no concept of his size, he doesn’t always realize that he can hurt smaller beings when he knocks them over or stands on them. Older kids are better for him. He has done fine with the resident cats, with minimal redirection when he gets too rambunctious periodically.
Thor has also mastered the puppy dog eyes when he wants attention or food! It is so hard to say no to that adorable face!

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful!
