Sunny

Adoption Status: Pending

Gender: Female
Breed: Pitbull Terrier Mix
Age: Est DOB: 11/2023
Weight: 44 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes w/ dogs 50+ lbs or more, no small dogs
Cat Friendly: No
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own!

A Note from the Foster: Sunny is an adorable and attentive dog. She will brighten your day every day! Her tail is wagging every time she gets out of her crate and every time she sees us! Her first instinct when you sit down or get on her level is to cuddle and ask for belly rubs. Sunny is great on walks, but has a very high prey drive, so squirrels need to stay on high alert when she’s around. She is a powerhouse on the leash, so a strong grip is required. Sunny loves looking out of windows and watching for squirrels, but we have only heard her bark a few times. She does great in her crate during the day and at night. Sunny is very respectful around food and is surprisingly patient when it comes to treats and dinnertime. She is very food-motivated and has been responding well to training with treats! She does have great puppy dog eyes, so be warned…

Because of her high prey drive, Sunny would not do well in a home with cats, and we aren’t sure how she would handle a home with dogs that are smaller than her. She has been in a home with other dogs, but needed a slow intro as she comes on very strong. She does fine with dogs her size, and we think that she would do okay in a home with kids. We have been working on her potty training, and she is 99% complete! She is still getting used to signalling when she needs to go, but otherwise she has had no big accidents.

All in all, Sunny is a calm, sweet, and loving dog that would be a wonderful addition to any home!

Adoption Fee: $510 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
