History and A Note from the Foster: My rising star, Starla! 🌟
I must say this little girl has been through a lot in her very short life, but she refuses to show it. The fur on her sides has been shaved, so we jokingly call her little Mohawk Mary. This fur will come back and Starla will rise above all the obstacles in her way to finding happiness.
Starla is a bundle of joy from the time she wakes up to the time she cuddles in her bed. She sleeps throughout the night in her crate. She is completely potty trained with a routine schedule. Starla goes out and does her business, flies back in the house, wipes her feet and does zoomies for praises and a treat. It is hilarious. Starla loves sniffing around outside and does well on leash. Starla is tiny, but handles going up and down stairs without hesitation. She has the cutest little squeaky talk when she feels she is being left out of something or wants attention.
Starla came into rescue with a huge bladder stone as a result of an untreated UTI. She had a successful surgery and her results came back negative. No special diet is needed. It is suggested that her urine is monitored with PH strips to prevent her from going through this again. Starla has a very healthy appetite, so training her is very easy. Starla is smart and very observant. She definitely does not miss a thing her resident canine brother or sister have or do. She caught on to their and her foster parent’s routine very quickly.
Starla loves everyone she meets. She adjusted to two other small dogs in our home nicely. Because she is so tiny, I would recommend other dogs in the home to be about her size. I also would recommend older children because of the risks of her getting hurt if dropped, tripped over, stepped on or held wrong. Starla also would do well with someone home with her most of the day as she originally came from a breeder and was kept in a kennel most of young life. She deserves so much more now.
If you are ready to meet this little rising star that has beat so many odds, please reach out to Starla. She is ready and waiting! 🌟🐾🐾
Note - First pic is of Starla with all her beautiful fur two years ago. Her fur will grow back! ❤️🐾🐾
Medical Note from our Vet Team- Starla had a large bladder stone surgically removed, which was composed of struvite crystals. She doesn’t need any medications or special food going forward. Her urine pH should be checked twice monthly, with test strips, to help prevent stones from coming back. Her pH should remain below 7.0
She has mild age-related changes in her spine and a grade 2/4 luxating patella (loose kneecap) on her right side. There are no concerns with her hips. None of these findings require treatment at this time.
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
