History: We welcomed this beautiful momma dog, Quattro to rescue from Northern MN when she was found to be expecting a litter of puppies. Her whelping and pregnancy unfortunately was a tougher one as she lost about half of her litter despite so much effort, tough work, and love from their foster mom and our veterinary team. The remaining four puppies are thriving and doing well however as they are now officially ready to start their journeys in finding forever homes of their very own soon!
A Note from the Foster: Some dogs give you their trust slowly… and when they do, it is the most beautiful gift.
I welcomed Quattro into rescue from northern Minnesota on January 25 when she was extremely pregnant, timid, and unsure of her surroundings. Just days later, on January 31, she gave birth to nine puppies. Sadly, over the following weeks, she lost five of her babies. While we cannot be certain, our best guess is that she experienced poor nutrition during pregnancy and may have delivered early.
Despite such a heartbreaking start, Quattro has been an incredible mother. She has lovingly raised her four surviving boys into happy, playful, confident puppies who adore life.
We estimate Quattro to be around two years old, but she still has a wonderful playful spirit that sometimes makes her seem like a puppy herself. She genuinely enjoys playing with my four-year-old resident dog as well as engaging with her puppies. Watching her romp around the yard with real interest and delight is one of the best parts of fostering her.
When she first arrived, Quattro was very fearful of new people and environments. She is still a shy girl when meeting new people, and adopters should expect that she may not immediately show her full personality during a meet-and-greet. But once she feels safe, she transforms into one of the most affectionate, gentle, and devoted companions I have ever fostered.
At home, Quattro absolutely loves to snuggle. She carefully approaches from the side and politely waits for permission before climbing into my lap, where she melts into pets, hugs, and kisses. She greets me each morning and every time I return home from work with joyful excitement that she can barely contain.
She loves being outside exploring and running around the yard in all kinds of weather. Snow doesn’t bother her at all, and while rain isn’t her favorite, she still happily heads out. She plays incredibly gently with both puppies and adult dogs and has wonderful manners with food and treats — never grabby or pushy.
Quattro is potty trained, though while nursing she has had access to an indoor bathroom area when I am sleeping or away at work due to increased food and water intake. As her puppies continue to wean, she is learning to enjoy all the finer things in life — toys, chews, playtime, scratches, and the comfort of being truly loved.
Quattro doesn’t need someone to fix her — she needs someone willing to give her a little time to bloom. The person who chooses her will be rewarded with an incredibly loyal, tender-hearted dog whose love feels very special because it is so deeply earned.
Quattro’s Ideal Home
Quattro will thrive in a calm, patient home that understands shy dogs may need a little time to feel safe and show their true personalities. A predictable routine and gentle encouragement will help her continue building confidence.
She would likely do very well with another friendly, confident dog to help show her the ropes, as she truly enjoys canine companionship and playful interaction. She also loves being outdoors and would enjoy a home where she can explore a yard or go on relaxed walks.
Once she feels secure, Quattro forms deep bonds and becomes an affectionate, loyal companion who loves snuggling, playtime, and simply being near her people. Her future family will need to give her space to adjust at her own pace — but the reward will be watching her blossom into the happy, loving dog she is meant to be.
Adoption Fee: $510 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
