Penny

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Female
Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Age: Est DOB: 03/2025
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Likely due to young age
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Yes

History: We recently welcomed a group of deserving dogs who needed help from overcrowded rural shelters in Oklahoma. They are settling into their foster homes and doing well as they start their journey in finding their forever home soon!

Penny overcame distemper and is ready to share love with a forever family. While distemper can be serious, many dogs who recover go on to live long, healthy lives.

She also has some blindness and deafness.

A Note from the Foster: Penny is a love of a little girl - lots of energy, joy, and curiosity. She also goes by Powerful Penny and Pen Pen. She works hard, is so sweet, and loves to play with familiar friends - pups of all ages, children and large humans. She is a double merle and was born deaf and visually impaired. This does not stop her from having mastered stairs, nearly fully potty trained, and tap signals for come, sit, and go outside. She is a tough little fighter - and while she takes time to warm and is a little anxious at first, she quickly attaches and loves to play, and play hard with other pups of all sizes. She would do wonderfully with another patient pup of any size or demeanor - and an equally present and patient forever family. Crate training is going slow as she has some separation anxiety with having overcome illness and being deaf and mostly blind. She currently lives with three other big dogs and plays right along with them! My foster family says that they know my forever family is out there and will marvel at what a remarkable pup I am - I can't wait to meet you! My foster family also says they look forward to being an ongoing resource of support and care to my forever family as they transition to forever loving me, Powerful Penny, with unique needs.

Adoption Fee: $760 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
