A Note from the Foster: Wanted: A Cozy Spot in Your Heart (and Maybe on Your Couch)

Hi there… I’m Penelope — a gentle, 7-years-young girl with a sweet soul and a hopeful heart. 🐾

Not too long ago, I lived in a commercial breeding facility for a while. My job was to have puppies, over and over. But those days are behind me now (hooray!) and I’ve been given a second chance — thanks to some kind humans who said I deserved more. Now, I’m ready for what comes next: a soft place to land, a patient person to love, and a home to finally call my own.

I’m a quiet, shy girl at first — life is still full of new things for me. But oh, how I love gentle pets and ear scratches! I'm learning that humans can be kind, and every day I get a little braver. Once I know you’re safe, I’ll follow you around like a little shadow and even come up for snuggles when I’m feeling bold.

Right now, I live with a foster mom who works from home. I spend my mornings snoozing in her office and warm afternoons exploring a fenced-in yard by the flower garden. It’s peaceful and safe, just how I like it. My favorite part of the day? Curling up on the couch in the evening, right next to my person.

I’m not barky, but I do let you know (with a soft little whine) if I’m hungry or need to go outside. I’m a polite eater, not super into treats or toys just yet — I’m still figuring out what I like! But I’m smart: I sleep quietly in my kennel all night, I’ve never had an accident in the house, and I’m even learning to ring a bell when I need to go potty. Pretty impressive, huh?

Because of my terrier curiosity, I do need a securely fenced yard, since I love to sniff and explore. I get along fine with other dogs (ignore them), but I haven’t met any cats or kids yet. I’d do best in a quiet, patient home that lets me blossom at my own pace. Walks might be fun… once I learn what a leash is all about. I ride nicely in the car after I get settled in my bed (seatbelt on, of course).

Every now and then, my foster mom sees a little spark of sass and silliness peek out (see video) — a sign that I’m learning what it feels like to be safe, loved, and… me.

I have a vet appointment on October 12 to get spayed (plus a little dental work and hernia repair) but I’m close to ready. I may be eligible for Coco’s Foster-to-Adopt Program — so please inquire. It’d allow us to get to know each other while I’m healing and settling in.

So… what do you say? Do you have room in your heart for a soft, soulful girl ready to start her new life?

Love,

Penelope 🐶💕

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
