Specs
Age: 1.5 years
Weight: 6.4lbs
Color: Orange Sable
Personality: Gentle • Affectionate • Sassy
Special Moves: The “where did you go” howl
Here’s a bit of what his day-to-day is like:
- He is happiest when he can be with his person/people, so he follows you around and wants to be a part of whatever you're doing!
- Peanuts was from a commercial breeding facility, so he's still learning how to be a house dog. It took some time for him to realize he was allowed to play with toys and that he can go outside just to hang out.
- He likes to play with plushies both big and small, and chew on yak cheese. He has also learned how to play with the foster's resident dog.
- He eats about ⅓ cup of dry food a day. He eats when he's hungry and stops when he's full. He’s also not possessive of food (and neither is the resident dog) so kibble is typically eaten at a more leisurely pace throughout the day.
Perks:
- He's spunky and not afraid to tell a much bigger dog when they've crossed a boundary
- He gets along with the foster's resident Pomsky and other humans he's interacted with.
- He's genuinely sweet.
- Travels well in the car (crated).
- His coloring is gorgeous and he photographs beautifully.
- Likes exploring outside
- Loves being held and carried around
- Loves to cuddle up on your lap or on a soft pile of blankets nearby.
Things he is still learning:
- He struggles with going down stairs, possibly due to his tiny size and lack of exposure.
- Potty-training is in progress and will require continuous training in his new home. It is advised to put him in a belly-band until he has acclimated to his new environment (will be provided).
- He is not fixed, so he marks around the house and yard a lot. This usually fades post neuter, but the belly band also helps with this when indoors.
- He has separation anxiety. It makes him extremely uncomfortable to be left alone, and will howl about it until soothed. He has improved a lot in the past 3+ weeks while in foster care, but will require ongoing support.
An ideal human for Peanuts is someone who:
- Loves a tiny dog
- Wants to show this sweet boy what a life of love feels like
- Is looking for a pal to bring (almost) everywhere
- Is committed to his grooming needs
- Can provide outdoor space for him to roam and loaf in the sun.
Peanuts has completed his Intake Exam, and is open for applications to adopt. He is scheduled for neuter/dental cleaning on July 7th.
Adoption Fee: $760 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
