History: Pea is an adorable little curly-q! She needed a second chance and an escape out of the commercial breeding world. She is a bit timid and shy at first but warms up quickly with some patience. She would make a wonderful addition to a lucky home of her very own soon!
A note from the foster: If you are looking to really “rescue” a dog then Pea is going to be the girl for you. She’s been through so much and she is working hard to overcome her fears. Any loud noises or quick movements are very scary so a slow quiet house is best. She seems to like women over men but has warmed up to men with time, just not right away. She is such a sweet dog and will cuddle and not leave your side once she has bonded with you. I could see her really thriving in a home with a single person or couple.
She tolerates her crate but it’s not her favorite place to hang out. She comes to work with me every day and sleeps on an electric blanket by my feet. She has never barked but will whimper when I leave her alone. She travels well and does great in the car. She doesn’t mind being brushed. She hasn’t shown any interest in toys yet. She recently learned how to handle stairs and is pretty good at going up but going down is a little unsteady.
She does GREAT with my other dogs and cats. She snuggles right up to our three other dogs (one big, two small) and completely ignores the two cats. She’s extremely scared of my teenage son. I think it’s because he moves too quickly for her comfort level. For a little dog she is very fast and agile. She doesn’t understand a leash yet but it’s imperative she’s in a fenced yard or on a leash/tie out. She’s nearly impossible to catch once she gets away. She now follows me in and out of the house into the yard but for someone new it will take a while. She potties outside quickly but has had accidents in the house. We are working on potty training and I think she’ll get there with enough time and patience. She is so sweet and fragile that I want to see her find someone to love her on her level. Slow, kind, and patient is going to be the winning combination.
Adoption Fee: $550 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
