Otter

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Age: Est DOB: 11/2018
Weight: 10 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Otter is a super handsome boy who was recently welcomed to rescue and will warm your heart with his smile and happy personality. He has his paws crossed to find his forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster: Otter has been with us for 3 weeks and we love him more every day.

He is a very easy-going guy to have around.

Otter had his Intake Exam and he came back with a healthy report! He is a 6-year-old Yorkshire Terrier with a shiny classic coat. He does need some dental work which will be done when he has his Neuter Surgery on August 21st.

He is still very timid and adjusting to being in a family home.  He sleeps through the night in his kennel and always keeps it clean.  He does not fuss about going in his kennel at night or when we leave the house.

We have spent a lot of time outside on the deck and in the yard.  He enjoys exploring and is very at ease with other dogs of all sizes.

He has loved the companionship of a guest Maltese puppy who has been with us for two weeks. They are quite entertaining when they wrestle each other in their playpen.  They hang out there together during the day when we are not doing something outside and they have had no accidents in the playpen. If he will be joining another dog in your home, I'm sure he will love having a buddy to keep him company.

Otter is very good about going to the bathroom outside. He does mark a lot outside.  So far when he is inside, he is kept to his playpen, kennel, or his new comfy bed and he has had no accidents.

We are working on walking on a leash.  He is motivated by treats, so he is slightly encouraged to walk with his leash when there are treats involved.  Otherwise, he puts on the brakes. I'm sure he'd be content to be a stroller dog, but we'll keep working on the leash walking.

Otter has barked only twice since he has been with us and just for a moment. It appears that he could be a very quiet dog, but we have only had him for 3 weeks and he is still coming out of his shell.

Otter prefers soft food because he is missing some teeth.  He's a very good eater.  He also loves to hunt for treats in his snuffle mat.

Otter is still very shy. He won't come up to you on his own, but he does like to be snuggled and petted. He loves his new plushy bed and is very relaxed to lay there in my office while I am on calls.

Otter has been super easy to care for and it warms our hearts to see him gaining confidence every day.  He's a beautiful dog.

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
