History: Niko FKA Duke was recently returned to rescue due to a family change in the home. He had been kenneled much of the day and developed some underlying anxiety from that. He has been doing well in his foster home and is officially ready to find his forever home!
A Note from the Foster: Please meet this absolute sweetheart, Niko! This gorgeous boy is looking for his forever home. He had previously been adopted in 2019 as a puppy. Recently, his family made the tough decision to return him to Coco's Heart due to circumstances changing in their lives that led them to believe he would be happier in another home (nothing he had done).
Niko understandably was stressed when he returned to the rescue and went to his foster home. He had previously spent a majority of his day (10+ hours) in a kennel and had developed some anxieties for new situations. Very soon after arriving at his new foster home, Niko made the brave decision to let down his guard and open his heart up.
He now spends his day in his foster home taking naps and getting scratches in between his foster mom's Zoom calls. He enjoys his time out in the yard sniffing and doing zoomies. Niko loves his foster siblings (two corgis) and plays very well with them. He is respectful and so goofy while playing.
One of his goofiest and best quirks is how incredibly "awkward" he can be. As he is learning to be silly, and enjoy time out of a kennel, he finds that cuddling is fun and so is being affectionate but the way he does it makes his foster parents laugh. One of the best aspects of fostering is watching dogs get to experience the true joy of being a dog and learning the little things.
Niko does well on walks, loves car rides, and is very smart. He is not a loud dog but does howl when he hears an ambulance so his future family will always be safe. He is fully potty trained, crate trained and knows basic commands very well. Niko enjoys his food and is a great eater. He has been an easy addition to his foster home and is so easy going.
This beauty of a boy is ready to meet his forever family and turn to a new chapter in his life. Only sunny days ahead, Niko!
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
