History: We recently welcomed a group of deserving dogs who needed help from overcrowded rural shelters in Texas. They are settling into their foster homes and doing well as they start their journey in finding their forever home soon!
A Note from the Foster: He is doing GREAT. The positives: Completely house and kennel trained. Zero potty accidents. He loves all humans, big or small. He has been dog friendly, as long as they have had good energy toward him. He has been around other foster dogs with us, and with my son's dog and have not gotten that reaction at all from him. He is okay with my cat, although curious with her, but not aggressive. I have also been very conscious of them, and haven't allowed them unsupervised alone time together. Our cat is not a friendly, cuddle, in your face kind of cat. She does her own thing and we see her periodically if she chooses to show herself, so there has not been a lot of time to observe them together.
He is not a big chewer, but has a couple times picked up a kids toy and used it as a chew toy. Likes Kong toys if they are filled with a snack. He might chase a ball if he is in the right mood, but if there is a squirrel that dares to be in his yard, he is after it.
He is a silly dog with a great personality. He is truly a goofball.
Things he is working on: He is continuing to learn how to walk on a leash. If he wears a Gentle Lead or a Halti, he does very well. Without those he pulls very hard. He is a VERY strong dog, so he can be hard to manage for some.
He is learning to keep all 4 paws on the ground when meeting people. He has come a long way with this but still has some progress to make. He used to even jump on us and try to lay in our laps when we were sitting in a chair but that has been almost eliminated completely. He wanted to put his paws on our shoulders, almost as if to hug us. He wants to love his people as much as he can!
Meatball is truly one of the all-time best dogs we have fostered. He will be a great dog for a family. We have considered keeping him so much. If I were ever going to foster-fail with another dog, he would be the top choice. However, if we adopt again, then we can't help more and I want to be able to continue helping. He is going to make some family very happy. There will be some tears shed when this one leaves our home.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
