May

Adoption Status:  Pending

Gender: Female
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: Est DOB: 10/2024
Weight: 55 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Yes

History: 🧡 From Texas to Midwest 🤠—- A group of deserving dogs was recently welcomed as part of our Texas Transport Program! A program launched to make an impactful difference for our partner shelters in Texas facing the overpopulation of animals with limited resources and low adoption rates. We are excited to help these southern gems find loving forever homes to call their own!

A Note from the Foster: May has settled into her foster home very well since arriving at rescue and is such a happy-go-lucky dog. She loves affection from people and has been wonderful with everyone she’s met so far. She’s very smart, food motivated, and has been picking up new skills and routines quickly, including threshold training. May loves going on walks to sniff around the neighborhood or explore the park, but she also settles down nicely afterward to relax at home. She’s been doing great in a condo setting with shared walls because she is not a big barker and has been very quiet both inside and outside the home. May is also very adaptable and would do well in an apartment, or house with a backyard to explore. She settles into her crate easily after walks or time outside and seems to view it as a safe, comfortable space.

House training: fully house trained and has not had any accidents.

Crate training: she sleeps through the night in her crate and does well there while we’re away at work.

Favorite activities: walks, running around at the park, feeding puzzles, and getting lots of pets.

Leash training: she is doing well on leash walking and responds nicely to redirection if she gets distracted by an especially interesting smell. She is not reactive to dogs or people on walks.

Things we work on: May is already a very well-rounded dog, so we mainly continue reinforcing good manners and building on the training she’s picked up so quickly.

May would make a wonderful addition to an individual or family looking for an affectionate and adaptable companion. She could easily do well in an apartment, condo, or home setting as long as she gets attention, affection, and daily time to explore the world around her.

Adoption Fee: $560 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
