Martha

Adoption Status: Pending

Gender: Female
Breed: Border Collie Mix
Age: Est DOB: 05/2024
Weight: 29 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Yes

History: We recently welcomed a group of deserving dogs who needed help from overcrowded rural shelters in Texas. They are settling into their foster homes and doing well as they start their journey in finding their forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster: When Sweet Martha (Marti for short) arrived to Coco's Heart from our rescue partner in Texas. I knew immediately she was very special. The expression of love and gratefulness in her eyes told her story. She had likey experienced some pain in her unknown past, but was ready to trust and find a safe and happy home. Fostering her, loving her and helping her to become the dog she was meant to be was my goal, our goal. She has been a trooper. Believed to be part Border Collie, she has portrayed the common characteristics of that breed - intelligent, energetic and of course,  has herding instincts. As a companion -loyal, alert and sensitive. She is fully potty trained, trusted to free roam in my home and after slow introductions, does well with other dogs. She currently lives with my 13 year old terrier mix and, although worries when she leaves the room, Martha likes to check up on her and keep track that she has not gotten too far from us. Kids are Martha's favorite. She interacts with my 3 and 5 year old grandkids like a second mother. Lots of Kisses and loves to run with them at the park.

Other than that, what makes her special? She had a previous injury that required her to have her back leg amputated. Has that slowed her down? Of course not, she is a determined and strong-willed girl. Since her surgery, she has adapted to being a tri-pod with ease and grace. Every so often she looks for assistance, but for the most part she lives her life doing all the normal things other dogs do without any difficulty. Martha is a true gem and is sure to make your life more joyful and complete if you decide to make her part of it.

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
