Mantis

Adoption Status: Pending

Gender: Male
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: Est DOB: 02/2025
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Likely due to young age
Kid Friendly: Likely due to young age
House Trained: Doing great!

History: We recently welcomed a group of deserving dogs who needed help from overcrowded rural shelters in Texas. They are settling into their foster homes and doing well as they start their journey in finding their forever home soon!

This litter of 3, the puppies to sweet Ladybug, arrived to rescue and shortly after broke with parvovirus. They are brave and strong little pups who powered through and are doing amazing now. They are ready to meet you!

A Note from the Foster: Woof, Woof, HEY! Woof, it’s me TROOPER! Well, my posted name is Mantis but my foster momma calls me Trooper! She says I am just a little trooper of a puppy! I also have a strong trooper of a personality and like to bark orders at everyone to keep them in line. She says I’m the feisty one of the bunch, I challenge my brothers. I may look the shortest but I don’t hesitate to lead my little pack!

I traveled up to Coco’s Heart with my 2 brothers and my momma (Ladybug) from WAY down south, this place called Texas. A lady that works along the border down there kept seeing my mom and giving her food, then one day she showed up with me and my brother and she just knew she needed to get us help. This wonderful lady saved us and got us to a rescue in Texas that connected with Coco’s Heart to help get us here! Pretty awesome right! After arriving my foster momma scooped up my brothers and me, and momma got to go relax without us at another foster home since we didn’t need her anymore.

It did not take our foster momma long to realize that she had some pretty smart puppies on her hands! She also noticed something else, we may not have been feeling quite as well as other puppies she had fostered in the past. This was brought to the vet staff's attention and they made sure to check us out so we could be on the mend right away! Now that we are feeling ALL better we are all ready to go be puppies and sniff out our furever homes!!

Anyways, back to all of the things I am amazing at!

Meal Time: I learned very quickly that “are you hungry” means, I GET TO EAT! I run and make excited noises at her feet while she scoops my food, and then when she tells me “Trooper kennel up to eat,” I go in my kennel for her to put my food down for me.

Play Time: I enjoy rough housing with my brothers and the other resident dogs in the house; but I also like to self entertain myself with all the toys and chews too. And fetch, OH MY GOODNESS, you mean you will throw it every time I bring it back?

Potty Training: I knew right away to use the potty pads in my play area and not go all over the house; also that if foster momma says “want to go potty outside” it means WE ARE HEADED OUTSIDE YIPPY!!!!

Going on walks: Walking on a lead is a work in progress for me, but I am getting there with a lot of encouragement and treats!

Crate training: I don’t mind sleeping in my crate but I would much rather be out lounging on a big smoosh soft dog bed. I REALLY like snuggles,I will go up to my foster momma and ask to be picked up by giving her my best goo-goo eyes and pawing at her; works like a charm every time and then I just snuggle right in.

treats! I don’t mind sleeping in my kennel at night but I would much rather be lounging on a big dog bed. I REALLY like snuggles.

I still have SO much to learn about this giant world! Do you think you can help me navigate it? I have so much spunk and excitement to find out more! I just cannot wait for my next adventure!

I really hope that you will want to come and meet me! I plan to attend lots of events this upcoming month and hope to see you there! I will be the handsome fella in black 🖤

Adoption Fee: $750 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
