History: Lumen is a beautiful adult lady who needed a second chance at a good life. She is super sweet and friendly who is officially ready to start her journey in finding her forever home soon!
A Note from the Foster: Lumen (aka Lulu) is the smartest little girl who tries so hard to please, but is often hindered by her apprehension of the big world around her. Everything seems to be a new and sometimes scary experience for her, but she is making strides in overcoming her fears every day. She has all the energy of a young pup (she is maybe 2 years old) but doesn’t yet know what to do with it. Her safe place when feeling overwhelmed is her kennel, and she does very well in it. With a consistent schedule, she has been doing well with house training.
She definitely prefers women over men, and would do fine in a home with older children who are respectful of her space and need for slower movements. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard, as she does not walk well on a leash and is often afraid of “being followed.” She also LOVES the company of other confident dog(s) in the home – playing, running, chasing, and rolling in the grass are her favorites! Sometimes her speed is faster than her legs, but she eagerly recovers and keeps going. She definitely as a high prey drive and a deep herding instinct, as she will exhibit her need to herd by running back and forth behind you, sometimes nipping a little at your heels. She chases cats, chickens, rabbits, and squirrels when the opportunity arises.
Gradually, Lulu is learning the best parts of being a family dog – for instance, ear rubs are the best! And those have gradually led to petting around the neck and sides. She’s not sure she wants to roll over for belly rubs yet, though…being upside down is just a little too scary. Squeaky toys are fun, and bully sticks are amazing! Small cat toys and rope toys are great too, but she has a tendency to eat them, so they’ve been taken away.
Lulu is not scheduled for her dental cleaning and spay surgery until September 5th, so would be an excellent candidate for the Foster-to-Adopt program.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
