Leiala

Adoption Status: Pending

Please read full bio before applying

Gender: Female
Breed: Great Pyrenees Mix
Age: Est DOB: 06/2023
Weight: 66 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes- would do best w/ another dog
Cat Friendly: Seems to be
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Doing great!

History: We recently worked with local animal control on welcoming 6 Great Pyrenees/English Cream Retriever mixes (reported) from a situation locally. They arrived in very heartbreaking shape. They were filthy, urine stained, and absolutely terrified. Shut down and scared of the world. They had never left their small little world before and everything was so new to them.

It took a short amount of time for most of them to start coming out of their shell and we are amazed at how well they are doing. They are now starting to become ready to start their journey in finding their forever homes!

Leiala is available as a foster to adopt option for a committed family willing to help her through her right rear leg amputation due to quite a few things going on back there that will give her a better quality of life and comfort long term.

A Note from the Foster: This part polar bear, part dog came into rescue with a host of medical problems but has been getting healthier every day. While her journey to becoming pain-free is still ongoing, she has been learning the ropes of being part of a loving temporary family.

This beautiful girl with the softest coat is Leiala. She is amazing with every dog she has met and would love to have a confident dog sibling in her forever home to continue to learn from them. She is pretty chill so she doesn’t require much from her forever family in terms of exercise.  She does enjoy a walk when it’s not too hot out and likes to dig around the toy basket from time to time to pull out a favorite. She does seek out play with other dogs but doesn’t force it if they aren’t willing.

Leiala is mostly potty trained. She does not enjoy being crated but she is completely trusted in the home as long as there aren’t any yummy treats left on the counter that she would like to taste. She walks wonderfully on the leash with only a pull for critters. She requests pets mostly at night or in the morning in bed but is always happy to get them from her people. She gets the zoomies when her foster mom comes home and likes to show off with some little hops. Leiala does well with children but might prefer a quieter home. She seems to treat cats similarly to dogs so she will try to see if they are interested in playing. She does bark pretty loud but typically it’s just when another dog initiates first.

Her progress with being accepting of new people hasn’t been consistent. Some days she is feeling more confident and other days she’d prefer to avoid touch or attention from new people. Never has this fear been exhibited through aggression, just avoidance. Leiala’s foster mom thinks this is where another confident dog that trusts people worthy of it is going to be key to her success. She is not a fan of loud sounds outside (i.e. fireworks, big trucks, loud cars) but indoor sounds don’t seem to faze her. She currently is being fostered in Minneapolis so she is a happy dog living a city life but she might prefer a less happening area to settle into long term.

She is one special, big girl that hasn’t had the easiest life so far. She came from a situation of neglect but has been getting spoiled ever since. She is looking for a patient family that will continue to help her heal and provide her a safe home for the rest of her days. Her foster mom believes that caring for her has been an honor of a lifetime and she knows Leiala’s future family will feel the same.

Adoption Fee: $750 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
