]Gender: Female
Breed: Norwegian Elkhound
Age: DOB: 03/2024
Weight: 39 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes- would do best w/ another dog in the home
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Older or No Kids Ideal
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Laika is a beautiful medium size girl who needed a second chance at a good life. She arrived to rescue timid and unsure of the world around her however has been making good strides in her trust and confidence. She is officially ready to meet her forever home soon!

A Note from the Foster:

Update as of 10/2- Laika has really opened up in the last week and is becoming more confident and curious around people. She loves other dogs and is so great about initiating play. We're continuing to build her trust and confidence and truly enjoy seeing her playful side come out more each day! Her bunny hops in the morning as we are getting ready to go for a walk are really adorable. 😁

Laika is a beautiful young girl who came to rescue from a breeder background and is learning to trust people and explore new things. She does well with the two resident dogs in her foster home, and will seek out the other dogs for comfort and direction when she is unsure or startled. Loud noises and quick movements still startle her, but she looks to her trusted people for reassurance in these situations. As she has had more exposure to new things, Laika continues to learn that these things are not quite so scary.

As Laika continues to settle in, her playful side comes out more and more. Laika initiates play with the resident dogs and loves running with the pack in her foster home. She enjoys getting her zoomies out by running and playing chase in the fenced in back yard and has the most adorable play hops.

Laika is doing great with potty training, as long as her people watch for her cues or keep with a schedule. She sleeps in her kennel through the night, and keeps things clean. She knows her name, outside, and kennel. Laika loves her morning walk and will hop in excitement near the door when you get the leashes out. Laika prefers the company of the adults in her foster home and will seek them out at times for sniffs and licks.

Laika would do best in a home with a patient family that is committed to helping her continue to build trust with people and new situations. She will flourish in a calm and loving home committed to helping her continue to experience new things and people.

Adoption Fee: $560 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
