A Note from the Foster: Gunner is a 6 lb lover. He's happiest burrowed under a blanket on the couch or zooming around with his favorite stuffed toy, Teddy. He lives with a 60 lb pittie mix, a cat, and chickens and does well with all of them. He's generally neutral with other animals so savvy animals would be best for him. He goes on walks with me and my resident dog (about 2 miles) and keeps up no problem but he can also lay on the couch and cuddle all day long if that's what we're doing.
Gunner has been a very easy keeper and has a super fun personality. He likes to do zoomies with his favorite toys when I come home from work and then he's ready for couch cuddles. He's a great balance between being able to entertain himself or relax on his own but he will never say no to spending time with you and cuddling. I think he could keep up with a fairly active lifestyle but would also do well in a more low activity setting as long as he had toys to play with!
When it comes to vet care and being handled in those settings, Gunner will need to be muzzled or possibly sedated as he gets scared and will start to snarl and nip. I have never been nipped by him in the 2.5 months I've had him but I pay close attention to when he's becoming uncomfortable and don't push him if he starts to get scared. His trigger is mainly anything that involves holding him in place to do something to him. Because of this, he will likely need a home without small children. He has been immediately friendly and affectionate with all the women I've introduced him to. He has been a little wary of a few men but will still go up for pets with them. He has no issue being picked up and carried around.
Gunner has a playpen with his food and water and a bed and blanket that's his space in the living room. He's given freedom around the house when I can watch him because he was prone to marking when he first came into our house. He's doing well with routine and going potty outside, but I still keep a couple potty pads around in case he wanders off without me noticing and he's good about using them. He's quiet while in his playpen and will either play with his toys or settle in for a nap in the sun.
Gunner has a condition where the tip of his penis doesn't retract all the way back into the sheath. He licks it a couple times a day to keep moisture but other than that it doesn't seem to bother him much. He's a happy go lucky little guy who provides our house with constant entertainment.
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
