Greta

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Female
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Age: Est DOB: 11/2023
Weight: 60 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Yes

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own!

A Note from the Foster: Meet Greta: a gentle old soul with an abundance of love to give.

Greta is a calm, loving soul who has taken to home life beautifully. She hasn’t had a single accident in the house and spends most of her day happily snoozing on a dog bed.

She’s incredibly considerate, the kind of dog who naturally respects your space without being asked. Greta doesn’t jump on people, doesn’t chew or get into anything she shouldn’t, and keeps all four paws off the furniture… though if you invited her up, we’re pretty sure she’d happily oblige if it meant extra pets and snuggles. And to top it off, she’s wonderfully quiet- no barking from this lady!

Greta is the perfect walking companion. She’s great on a leash and rarely pulls. She can be a little timid when passing other dogs or encountering new things or noises, but with gentle reassurance she continues on without trouble.

Greta also does well in a kennel. During her first few days, she happily spent time in her kennel with the door open. Now that she knows she’s safe, she prefers curling up on a dog bed close by her people. She can get a little sad when you leave the room, but she settles down quickly and rests quietly- she just enjoys being near you.

Greta came to rescue through the OOTC effort with two babies, so life was pretty serious before arriving to CoCos. Because of this, she doesn't yet know how to play or understand what dog toys are. We don’t know how she does with other dogs or cats in a home environment. Based on her behavior when passing dogs outside, she will likely do best with slow introductions and calm, respectful canine friends. Greta is still trying to learn basic commands, but given her natural manners and eagerness for treats and affection, we know she’ll learn at her own pace.

Greta is a true sweetheart who loves pets, soft places to rest, and being close to her people. She will make an excellent addition to a family who is ready to give and receive as much love as Greta is!

If you’re looking for a gentle companion with a heart of gold, Greta is your girl.

Adoption Fee: $510 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
