Graham Cracker

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Age: Est DOB: 06/2022
Weight: 64 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Doing great!

History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue efforts continue all winter long as we have recently welcomed another deserving group from our rural area partners in North Dakota.

A Note from the Foster: Hi! My new foster family named me Graham Cracker, I'm about 3 years old. They like to call me fun names like "Sir Graham," "Grammy," or "Grammer." I just smile and wag my tail. I'm a super chill guy, I like to lay out in the grass or on the deck for hours. I also LOVE treats! I do have a broken tooth that needs to be pulled, but that doesn't stop me from gnawing on bones and crunchy treats. I'm not interested in toys (yet) but maybe with time I'll understand how fun they are.  I'm kind of a houdini, I escaped my kennel several times while my new family was out of the house. Since I'm such a good boy and don't chew anything or have potty accidents in the house, my family's been letting me have free roam when they leave. My new doggy roommate, Dawson, gets jealous when I have free roam and he doesn't... but he's got a track record for eating anything and everything he can find! We tolerate each other, I don't like when he gets in my face...he has a lot of energy! We spend most of our day separated, but when everyone is home we both walk freely in the house. And sometimes we go in the backyard together. Speaking of backyards, there's bunnies and squirrels out there... and one of these days I'm going to catch one!

I came to rescue limping on my right front leg, we learned at the vet I have an old fracture. The vet gave me some pain medication and said there's no other treatment needed at this time, it's healing on its own. The meds aren't bad, I get peanut butter or cheese when I take them! My family has been having me take it easy, no walks right now...but I can run fast when I want to! When I first came to my new family's house, I wouldn't use the stairs. I had to be carried up and down, but I decided to try the stairs and I can go up and down, no problem!

I'm such a good boy, and my foster Mom says whoever adopts me is going to hit the jackpot! I'm sweet, and gentle. I like kids, and my family has 3 of them. I like when they give me treats and pets. When they get loud, I do get nervous and will move away. I'm still learning that people are good and aren't going to hurt me. I can get skittish and like to take my time when I'm meeting new people and dogs. My mom thinks I would be good as a solo dog, or with a doggy companion. She also says I'm smart and a quick learner. I'm getting more comfortable each day and it's been fun for my family to see me blossom. I'm excited to find my forever family!

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
