History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own!
A Note from the Foster: Meet Elodie- she is your future Loyal Black Beauty!
Straight out of the North Dakota Out of the Cold rescue effort, Elodie is a 60‑pound lab/retriever mix who’s equal parts brains, beauty, and heart. With her sleek black coat and soulful eyes, she’s the kind of dog who turns heads at the park and melts hearts at home.
✨She is a smart cookie! Elodie learned “sit” in just one day and is eager to keep impressing you with her quick mind. She’s vocal when she has something to say (usually about playtime, going outside or snacks), and she’ll happily chase balls until your arm gets tired. She is fully potty trained!
💖Our sweet snuggler: Elodie adores her humans and wants to be right by your side—or outside soaking up fresh air. A fenced yard would be her dream come true. She sleeps soundly through the night in her kennel and settles in during the day with only a little protest.
🐾 Dog dynamics: Elodie isn’t too fond of her current foster sibling (a 10‑pound shih tzu with big opinions), so she’d thrive best as the either the star pup in her new home or with slow introductions to her new siblings. She’s learning that other dogs can be playmates, not rivals.
🛡️ Guardian spirit: She has a natural instinct to protect her people and her home. With training, she could be an excellent hunting partner—or simply the loyal watchdog who makes you feel safe and loved.
If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, ball‑chasing beauty who will be your shadow, your protector, and your best friend, Elodie is ready to meet you.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
