History: We welcomed a group recently from a partnering organization of ours, Villalobos Animal Rescue. Double is a beautiful brindle girl with a lot of love to offer a lucky family of her very own!
Double has recently been diagnosed with mega-esophagus and while she is doing well, she needs to be fed in a certain position and is doing really well with this!
A Note from the Foster: Double’s story began on the streets of New Orleans, where she was found as a stray before being rescued by Villalobos Rescue Center. She may have endured some hardships while on the streets, as it appears the tip of her tail was broken, and possibly a rib, as one slightly protrudes from her side. Neither prove to hurt her or cause discomfort now that she’s older and healed. Despite the hardships she’s faced, this 20-pound sweetheart radiates warmth, resilience, and joy.
Petite and with a short silky coat, Double is happiest nestled close to her people — often curled up in a fuzzy blanket or gently resting her head on your lap. She’s calm and affectionate with a comforting presence.
While Double enjoys the simple pleasures — a stroll around the block, a cozy nap, or a few playful zoomies with her squeaky monkey and alligator toys — she’s mostly a laid-back girl who treasures peaceful moments and gentle company.
Double is crate trained, sleeps through the night without a peep, and is almost completely potty trained with the occasional accident if she’s not reminded to go outside. She’s bright and eager to please, already knowing “sit” and “leave it,” and walking beautifully on a leash.
Double does have Megaesophagus. It means she eats soft or moistened food from raised bowls and takes daily anti-nausea and antacid medication to help her feel her best. Her condition will need to be monitored throughout her life, but with a consistent routine and attentive care, she thrives — taking her pills like a champ and greeting each day with quiet joy.
After all she’s endured, Double’s gentle heart remains open. She’s ready to find a forever family who will love her for the special, soulful dog she is — a little reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things come from the hardest beginnings.
Adoption Fee: $560 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
