Dano

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: DOB: 04/2025
Weight: 45 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
House Trained: Yes

History: We recently received a plea to help in an overcrowded area where shelters are full to the brim and needing help urgently. Whether unclaimed or no longer wanted, they now have a loving home here at CHDR until they each find a forever home of their very own!

A Note from the Foster: Dano is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves cuddling and trying to fit onto his people's laps. He is incredibly friendly and enjoys meeting new people and playing with other dogs. While he has no barrier reactivity, his high energy and lack of personal space can sometimes be overwhelming for other dogs. He would be a wonderful fit for a family with older children who won't be easily knocked over by his enthusiasm.

Dano is an active dog who loves walks and hiking in the woods; he can easily handle 2-3 miles and still have energy for fetch. He would likely make an excellent running companion. He is also a very fast learner and is highly motivated by treats and praise. He has already learned to relax in his kennel or his "place" in the kitchen and is currently working on retrieving and loose-leash walking.

Regarding house training, Dano appears to be fully potty trained. He is also comfortable sleeping in his kennel through the night and entering it for rewards. His primary challenge is separation anxiety; he may bark, whine, or pull nearby items into his kennel to chew on when left alone. With patience, consistency, and continued training, he has great potential to overcome this.

Adoption Fee: $560 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
