A Note from the Foster: Hi, I’m CaterinaI, I’m a sweet and shy small JRT. I'm 5 years young and I weigh 11 pounds.
You would never know it because of how sweet I am, but I had a very ruff start in life. Because of this, I am still learning to trust people, and it takes me time to warm up to them. I will need a very patient family to continue to teach me love and kindness. I will not approach for attention, and I may at times run and hide. However, once I settle into a home where I know I am safe, then I love to be held, pet, lay in your lap or cuddle.
Slow approaches work best for me so I am not startled, which causes me get low on the grown and hide my tail. I prefer when people crouch down or get on my level when petting me at first or picking me up. I’m really scared of new people.
While I am still skiddish in the home, my foster family says I am growing in confidence every day! Having a confident other dog to learn from in my future home or a patient human teacher would be best for me.
I have met another calm dog, and I learned to give them space when told. I’m learning to play with other dogs but I haven’t figured out how. I like to chase the ball and I get zoomies in the house when my foster parent plays with me.
I do well when my foster parent leaves me alone in the office. I don’t get into anything and patiently wait for my foster parent to come back. I have had potty accidents when left alone but I am learning that potty is only outside.
I’m still learning about stairs. I will go up but down is so scary to me. I love going on walks! I don’t like the leash touching me though, it scares me. I prefer a harness because that way the leash doesn’t touch me as much. I enjoy exploring new places. I do have what the humans call “prey drive” so I do try to chase critters and will occasionally pull.
I am potty trained as long as I am kept on a schedule as I do not yet alert, and may have occasional accidents. When I have an accident, it is normally on a puppy pad if there is one out for me.
I have met a toddler before and I was curious about him. The fast movements and loud noises are very scary to me, and cause me to get low on the floor and hide in the office. The office is my safe space.
I think I'd do best with older respectful children who would be kind and gentle. I prefer a quieter environment, loud noises scare me.
Because I’m a JRT, I shed a lot. I don’t like the brush and I try to bite it.
I sleep in the crate all night but sometimes I need to hear that my foster parent is nearby. I just want to be as close as possible to you, because I just love being loved! I sleep through the night with no problem and take naps during the day.
Overall, my foster family says I have so much love to give and just need a special family to continue to help my confidence grow!
I can’t wait to find my forever home and share my love with my new family!

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
