Blarney male wheaton.JPG

Blarney

Adoption Status: Accepting Adoption Interest

Gender: Male
Breed: Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Age: Est DOB: 02/2021
Weight: 25 lbs
Dog Friendly: Yes
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Yes
House Trained: Doing great on a schedule

History and A Note from the Foster: Blarney is a resilient little guy with a big heart. Coming into rescue from a commercial breeding background, this 4-year-old Wheaten Terrier had a rough start in life, but thanks to a bit of luck (and a lot of love), his story took a happy turn. You could say the luck o’ the Irish was with him the day Coco’s Heart rescued him!

Now settling into life as a beloved pet, Blarney is showing off his sweet and spunky personality. He enjoys sitting out on the deck watching the world go by, and has a special talent for spotting squirrels from the window. He enjoys slow, meandering walks with frequent stops to take in all the sights, sounds and smells of this big, new world outside of a kennel. Blarney gets along well with other dogs but is mostly indifferent to them after the first few minutes.

He gets a kick out of seeing his reflection in windows or doors and can't get enough belly rubs or ear scratches. His favorite treats? Hot dogs and cottage cheese—yes, please! Soft treats are best (he needed to have a large number of teeth extracted) – but don't bother offering him cheese, bananas, or eggs—this little guy has refined tastes and knows what he likes.

Blarney is potty trained when taken out regularly but will mark when first given access to new areas that have been previously off limits to him. He sleeps quietly in his kennel all night, typically from 9 pm-7 am. He has always kept his kennel clean. Blarney is still adjusting to the big beautiful world and can be startled by sudden movements, so a calm and patient home will help him continue to gain confidence. He enjoys being close to his person—whether that means quietly settling on the floor while you work or curling up on the couch with his head in your lap for a cozy nap. Overall, he’s a pretty low-energy, low-maintenance trusty sidekick.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a resilient spirit, a dash of terrier sass, and a sprinkle of Irish luck, Blarney just might be your perfect match. 🍀

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
