History: Amazing Grace is a beautiful gal who was a local stray and needed help urgently. She was extremely emaciated and in need of some TLC badly. She was welcomed to rescue with the help of a wonderful committed foster family and got her name thanks to one of our supporters. She has been feeling better each and every week and is officially ready to start her journey in finding her forever home soon!
When Amazing Grace came to us, it was clear her medical needs had been neglected for some time. She was underweight, had arthritis in both knees as well as her back, and had a tumor on one of her mammary glands. Our veterinary team started treating her arthritis with pain medications and laser therapy, and she is doing great with that! Her mass was removed and it was found to be a low grade cancerous mass (mammary carcinoma). In dogs, this type of tumor is slow to re-grow and rarely spreads distantly. We feel that she does not need any immediate follow up with this, but her adopters do need to know that there is approximately a 3-5% chance the growth could recur.
A Note from the Foster: Hi! I'm Gracie! I came to rescue malnourished and so skinny you could see my bones. My foster Mom could immediately tell I would be the best girl. Now I feel like it too and I'm ready to find my forever home!
I live with my foster mom and her resident dog. I'm fine with other dogs but don't really care if they're around as long as they don't bug me. I wouldn't mind if I was the only dog and got all the attention. I haven't met any cats yet.
Just so you know, I go potty outside and even though I've been left out in my room for periods of time without issue, my foster mom still has me go in my crate throughout the day. I whine for a little bit then settle down.
I love going on shorter walks but sometimes I'll smell something so good and I have to pull my foster mom to it. My favorite thing to do is nap in the sun! It feels so good! She takes me socializing too and I love meeting humans of all sizes. In fact, I get so excited sometimes that I bark to make sure everyone sees me wiggling and waiting to be pet. Ohhhh and I love, LOVE my blanket. If you move it, I will surely follow it, plop down and snuggle in.
Now that you've heard the good, there are a couple things to consider. I have arthritis and need a joint supplement. Flights of stairs are still hard at times so I'd like a home where I don't have too many stairs, unless you're willing to carry me if it looks like I'm having trouble. Another thing you should know is I can't always hear everything but if you clap your hands and hold out your arm, that gets my attention and I'll come back to you.
My foster mom keeps telling me I'm the sweetest girl and will make a great companion for someone. I hope it's you and we can live our best lives together!
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
